Kim Campbell Ones Of History's Greatest Leaders

Posted on Wednesday, April 14 at 10:02 by N Say
Campbell's name appears on a list of influential leaders in a new reference book -- the Almanac of World History, recently published by the society -- alongside such historical giants as Alexander the Great, Cleopatra, Napoleon Bonaparte, Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill.

Campbell's inclusion on the list has historians in this country shaking their heads.

"It's ridiculous," says Michael Bliss, an author and historian at the University of Toronto.

But the American editor of the Almanac says Campbell belongs in the pantheon of historical greats for the simple reason she was Canada's first female prime minister.

"Given that there have not been that many females who have led nations, we chose to include her," says Jane Sunderland, a project manager at the Washington D.C.-based society.

The rest is here.

Absolutely absurd. What puzzles me is that Mackenzie King and John A. Macdonald were also on the list. So obviously they studied Canadian history. How can you have even the most basic knowledge of our Prime Ministers and still include Kim Campbell? What about Pearson or Trudeau? Surely Women Leaders are held to higher standards than simly being female. I'm not sure why this irk's me so much, but it does... oh well.

Yeah, no doubt. Pearson was a world-famous diplomat who is accredited with "inventing" peacekeeping. Trudeau could be called the last statesmanlike Prime Minister. Campbell didn't do shit except childishly make fun of Chretien's face, and she has no place on any list of great Canadian leaders, let alone an international one. Peace.

She actually wasn't the one who planned the joke about Chretien it was her puppetmasters...they knew she would be sacrificed on election day, because people were sick of the pc's period, and they didn't want it blamed on the previous administration so she was made to look the fool! She didn't stand a chance, good or bad we'll never know?

National Geographic has lost some of my respect. Maybe the Guiness Book of Records or Ripley's Believe it or Not, but this list?
