"We've got people waiting 18 months for surgery on their hips," Evans said in an interview following a government caucus meeting. "And we have a demand for that type of service where they can pay for (the surgery) so they can get their life back." http://www.canada.com/health/story.html?id=5148d9ff-c761-4247-8d4b-6a14cf764968

Underfunding is naturally a problem in Alberta especially.....I think people who believe in privatization are simply ideological....competition works in some areas, but not every area.

I this story the Alberta govt. claims that the government funded medicare costs about $1,056 per year per family. The lowest my American friends pay is about $300. US per month and some pay over $1000. US per month, often for only two. Then come the horror stories happening in the USA system, our censored media would never report. $120. for an aspirin....etc. the insurance company demanding that the plug be pulled on an unconscious patient when the insurance runs out, etc. etc.

A few more bucks into the present Canadian system, especially in wealthy Alberta, would cure all the problems, with only a fraction of the per capita expenditures Americans have to pay. It is obvious that they're just trying to wreck the system for ideological reasons, as the cost of private insurance is way out, because all privatized services cost way more.

    She's no anarchist!<br />
Alberta will examine the possibility of having private insurance compete with the public health-care system for all medical treatments, Health Minister Iris Evans told The Canadian Press on Tuesday. "I'm not trying to be an anarchist, I'm just saying that while we're doing this actuarial review, isn't it responsible to look at all the options that are available?'
