The Provinces already deliver health care privately - get an X-ray - all private except for the ones done in a hospital. Eye exams, hernia operations in private hospitals... the list goes on and on. Scrappin the wasteful Canada Health Act would make delivery more efficient. A lot of Canadians suffer for months on end waiting for the government to provide health care, hip replacements are a good example, these Canadians deserve a break from their pain even if it doesn't fit certain ideologies. The Liberals are promising you'll wait five months instead of six for a pain relieving operation, not that they deliver on their promises, but it's time a better system was tried instead of this byzantine socialist bureaucracy we call a health system.
Gee, returning the funding that the likes of Mulrooney, Chretien/Martin cut or the further cuts that Mike Harris and "Red Nose" Ralphy Klien and their ilk took out of the system over the last decade might just fix it up too.
You can deliver your neo-con blather all you want. I can tell you that during the early 80's when I was in highschool, out public, universal Health Care system worked just fine, thank you. But then the Neo-cons got in and gutted it of money and people, so now what might have been an hour or two wait is up to 8 or 9 hours. Then they have the audacity to point to the crisis THEY CREATED by removing the proper level of funding, and say "See, public Health Care doesn't work, we should let it be privatized." Well, screw you buddy. This is nothing more than an bunch of idealogical twits sabotaging the system so that the millions of dollars that go to it can be given to their Bay street buddies in the form of profits. Then we'll have bad health care for most and great Health Care for the rich, and insurance companies will make millions. They just can't stand the idea of millions of dollars being spent and no profit to be had (look at how they want to privatize the LCBO, one of the best agencies the Ontario government has - profitable and well run, but the money goes to the government not some corporation, so it's bad).
If you want that, move to the United States, where my sister pay $500 USD per month so her family of 4 can have basic medical coverage. And she still has to pay for doctors visits.
