In the many weeks leading up to the last election Carole James was invisible. Hopeful supporters said, “Carole James has a program, but she’s not telling it till the writ is dropped. For now she is criss-crossing the province getting to know everyone.”
Then the writ was dropped, and we learned the position of the Carole James NDP. In the face of Gordon Campbell lying, trashing solemn contracts, going on the attack against unions, creating full-scale scandals, desecrating B.C. seniors, and walking on low-paid workers, Carole James declared she wanted nothing to do with confrontational politics. The Gordon Campbell Mafia agreed warmly, knowing it couldn’t win election in a truly confrontational but fair and proper campaign by the NDP.
Then Carole James said she wanted to cut ties with labour and unions. Since the Gordon Campbell Mafia hates unions and does all it can to break them, it said: “Right on, Carole!”
Then Carole James told the B.C. population repeatedly that an NDP government couldn’t undo the bad things the Gordon Campbell Mafia has done. “Yes,” said the Gordon Campbell Mafia, “we, too, believe we are God.”
Then Carole James gave a speech to the Board of Trade. Instead of telling them to get ready to help the poor, to do new innovative things in B.C., to lose the tax love-in with government, Carole James tried to woo them, and failed.
The CanWest headlines the next day said, in effect, “the audience that heard Carole James told her to get lost.”
Instead of calling on the great NDP CCF past in B.C., Carol James tried to hide from it, ashamed of it. For instance, the Gordon Campbell Mafia and the CanWest Press have defamed and slandered honest Glen Clark who made one political mistake, trying to suggest he is a dishonest person. Instead of strapping on her fists and showing that Glen Clark is Jesus Christ compared to Gordon Campbell – liar, sell-out, contract breaker, etc., - Carole James tried to pretend Glen Clark has never been in B.C. “That’s it,” said the Gordon Campbell Mafia, “way to go, Carole!”
Having lost an election that fate handed to her to win, Carole James threw a huge “Defeat Celebration” in the ballroom of the Empress Hotel. Then said her admirers: “Now just watch Carole James.”
Except we couldn’t watch her because she’s been nowhere to watch. She’s been invisible. When absolutely pushed by complaining NDP members, she would issue a tepid news release. Months have passed and Carole James has done nothing.
She should have been seen cutting at Campbell policy all over the province. With two or three MLAs – to introduce them to British Columbians – she should have appeared on the Telus strikers’ lines. Telus is lousy. Telus has been reprimanded by CRTC. People don’t like Telus. Telus wants to make its workers slaveys for the rich. Carole James should have said that – from the Telus strike lines.
With two or three MLAs – to introduce them to British Columbians – Carole James should have appeared, making memorable comments, at seniors’ homes, at health centres, at half-way houses, etc. to underscore the vicious treatment in those places because of Campbell policy.
She should have sought major speaking engagements with the Nurses’ Union – which has done excellent work criticizing Campbell’s Mafia attacks on health care. James should have sought major speaking engagements with Teachers’ organizations, with the organization fighting privatization of B.C. Hydro, with municipal governments. At those events she should have been cutting the Campbell government to ribbons, introducing NDP MLAs, and outlining a bold policy for an NDP government in power.
She has done none of those things. She has done nothing.
Now she is acting as if she is a committee chair of an inconsequential Gordon Campbell Mafia committee told to cool it, get out of the limelight, and wait for Campbell’s orders.
Now Carole James is in the house, where many Liberals are tainted with lies and corruption over the sell-out of B.C. Rail, party membership fraud, nepotism, and much more. The NDP is facing a government which is ugly and whose policy is totally repugnant to NDPers. The NDP cannot “co-operate” with that government unless NDP MLAs accept Gordon Campbell’s poisonous program and his party.
That is what Carole James seems to be doing. She appears to want to look pleasing and reasonable to the Liberal Mafia in the legislature. She wants to “co-operate,” which - like it or not – means the NDP co-operating with Campbell Liberal sell-out, corruption, and slashing living standards for our most vulnerable people. That way lies craven, hopeless disaster and despair for British Columbians.
As if to prove my point, NDP leader Carole James gave her maiden speech in the legislature on September 13. Appropriately, most Liberals didn’t bother to hang around to hear it. There’s “courtesy” for you. There’s “co-operation.” There’s “civility.”
Moreover, as if to show that the gray-faced, slippery-with-truth, corporate robot Gordon Campbell has a black sense of humour after all, he’s letting the NDP have a majority on a special fish-farm committee where they can use up all their energy thinking they’re important.
Will Carole James be taken in by such tricks? She has already been taken in.
This is the leader of the NDP in British Columbia, the party which is the refuge, the home, the hope of all British Columbians who want a decent, honourable, just, humane B.C. – controlled by British Columbians.
It makes me think that young B.C. people in unions, in universities and colleges, in care homes and health units, in service trades and restaurants and garages and bakeries have got to act. They’ve got to get into the NDP, push aside the slick bureaucrats in suits, get executive positions, move the dead wood out – and make the NDP determined to win, determined to make B.C. a decent, honourable, just, humane B.C. – controlled by British Columbians.
If they ask Carole James to do it for them, she’ll first consult Gordon Campbell – co-operatively, of course, forgetting the eternal, simple truth spoken by Winston Churchill about parliamentary legislatures in democracies: “The role of the Opposition is to oppose.”

Here in Nova Scotia years back , the Liberals under the leadership Gerald Regan purchased the electric company Nova Scotia Power because its infrastructure was in bad condition . We all thought this was great, the people own and controlled their own power supply.
Little did we know that this was nothing more than a plan by a few well placed business men to rebuild this god forsaken mess with our tax dollars and then turn it back into a private business. It was done while the Conservative Party were in power under the leadership of Donnie Cameron, we been had.
This is common practice, build a public infrastructure, like Health, Education, Government office building with public funds, then flip them over to their business buddies. They manage to do these things because these political parties are where these parasites hide.
They position themselves in government department where they can float the much need infrastructure dollars out the door to their business buddies , while achieving the slow deterioration of our Health , Education and so on , you get the picture.
Here in Nova Scotia just this week, the Conservative Party gave a well connected businessman 15.5 million dollars in funding to start a fish oil extraction plant in Burnside Industrial Park , because John Risley’s company spokesman said they had offer from other places .
That to me is blackmail and if it were true and the Conservative meant what they said, we gave it to them to great jobs, then why not put that plant in Canso Nova Scotia a community devastated by the loss off their fishery ?
Canso has a fish plant that was closed , a wharf and is one of those rural communities that has been forced to shut down all because of lame brain ideas these political parties come up with. This 15.5 million dollars is not about job creation , it all about breaking our infrastructure , they use up the capital needed to maintain what we the public has built.
May these political parties all freeze in hell for the lies they tell and the tax dollars they steal .
If it looks like a rat then its a rat....

Good government is not a party government
He lost the election, and also had potential links organized crime. Then he turned coat to the Federal Liberal party under Paul Martin, and is now Federal Health Minister. So Carol James is no suprise to me. The NDP and its predecessors in BC have been horribly corrupt in the past, why trust them now? Why after all this time, will we finally have a chance at changing the situation?
If you had a choice between getting into one of two cars , one driver you know is a muderer and a theif, the other driver you know is a theif, and suspect of being a murderer.
Thats the situation. Do you want horrible, or just really really bad. Take a pick. Its ridiculous.
We need some new Ideas. We Need a party that relies on the voters, the taxpayers, not the special and corporate intrests that will lobby any government. We need a strong eye watching the people in power, and for them all to stop acting like they own us.
Well Jack what about your party and the other politically correct Robin Hoods addressing the freaking problems right her at home. You see I am please that you all will end up with your paychecks and perks , not to mention those fat pensions.
I written you and all of those wonder self serving NDP members here in Atlantic Canada to push for a public inquiry and not one word.
I would have thought that you would have offered up your parties support when you were being interviewed on the CJCH 920 talk show with Rick Howe or maybe Steve Murphy on ATV.
Why didn't you, I suppose your support was all eaten up by the unions. Well when the election is called Jack, remember this , 100 of thousands of people passed thought Base Gagetown and those of us who are still living will remember.
Peter Stoffer has really shown me the man he really is and it not much

Keep in mind also that while they get money from unions that doesn't mean they always tow the union line, which upsets many people. There are only 4 million union members in Canada now, if they kowtowed only to unions they'd never have a chance of being elected.
Finally, unions represent workers, sometimes badly, but at least their function doesn't seem to me to be something to be derided. The only real constant economically in Canada over the past two decades has been the drop in our general standard of living, and the equivalent drop in union membership and number of unions. Take a look at any two industries, one with unions, one without and I have a hard time finding fault with unions. They may make strategic decisions I disagree with and aren't often democratic enough, but unionism, particularly in an age of globalism, is something that should be enhanced.
Unions are deeply involved in every Workers Compensation Board and we all know the abuse of power these vile WCB Boards administer. This is one real good example where Union cozy up to the business community who are the owners of this vile insurance provider.
If it looks like a snake then it a snake and the unions are sleeping with snakes and the NDP are sleeping with unions. You cannot run around this country claiming to be protectors of Human Rights, when you are sleeping with other abusers.
You cannot put down a prostitute when in the dark of night you use her services and this is just what the Unions and NDP do... the unions unionize these vile WCB Boards and MP's like Peter Stoffer who was employed with Canadian Airlines for 18 years, was also a very strong unionist, so go figure why he would not want to see these Board investigate for Human Rights Abuse, the brotherhood would get upset and the union involvement would not look good.
So, it is best for the NDP to ignore this abuse. I have written MP Peter Stoffer, the CLC, all Federations of Labour and Buzz Hardgrove, they all turn a blind eye. Unions and the NDP talk a good talk , but that is as far as it goes. Both are full of bull .

I'm not saying Campbell doesn't have flaws, but when you reduce debt payments you have more money to focus on other initiatives. Pure common sense that the NDP lacked - and hearing Carol James - still lacks.
The NDP needs an overhaul, enough with the defense of the blue collar guys that are making $70K a year! If you WANT to be a linesman (i.e. in the case of TELUS) in this day and age, then accept the conditions that go with it as this job can be performed by way more people and at much lower costs! If you can't accept the lower pay or different social benefits, then do like ALL of us and change job and stop complaining with your pitiful little white signs in front of TELUS stores in BC!
Get a freakin' job you lazy b@$t@rds!!

Backup please!
The BC debt under Campbell just keeps goin' up, and up and up. And in this "Golden Decade" (which implies that everyone is doing well), business was "surprised" at the generosity of the subsidy BC Libs kicked in in their latest mini-budget. When an economy is doing well, government should be collecting money to pay down debt. Not increasing it.............

As for Carole James, it's 4 freakin' months since last election. We have 4 freakin' years to go. What is she SUPPOSED to be doing about now..........?
---
RickW

people are blind to empirical European reality.
A balanced mix of capitalism & socialism works
better than an almost exclusively Capitalist/American
system. The USA has MUCH higher poverty rates, infant mortality rates, illiteracy rates, incarceration
rates, homicide rates but MUCH lower corporate tax rates.
We have NEVER had a federal NDP gov't.In Finland, the
CEO of Nokia doesn't protest and cry "damn socialists", he
works with the "evil Robin Hood".Same re: the
Dutch CEO of Philips electronics. The USA CEO's earn
3X more than their European counterparts, so
they, through media control, keep saying "Isn't
the free market great ? The economy isn't wrecked !"
... while the poor & middle class get poorer.
The only party which will stop rampant Americanization
and American-style social indicators is the NDP.People
bash the BCNDP, but it's not their fault that greedy corporations rebelled against moderate wealth re-distribution, and moved out of province.Greed and
Americanesqe indoctrination harmed BC's economy
during the NDP tenure much more than egalitarian
socio-economic policies.
If you want to increase tolerance, compassion,
fairness and nationalism, vote NDP, Greens or CAP.If you
want to increase Americanization, prohibitionism,
incarceration rates, infant mortality rates, child poverty
rates, pollution, violence, corporatization/privatization
then vote Liberal/Conservative.
Alot of old cynics like Wayne would rather bash
the NDP than fix Canada. It's too bad they don't
even see the road we are being led down
by the Neo-Libs and Neo-Cons.Again... who
are we going to emulate... Finland/Denmark/France/Netherlands or the
destructive, polarized, murderous, impoverished,
violent, intolerant, aggressive, greedy USA.
Paul Martin & Stephen Harper would greatly
facilitate the wholesale slaughter of
Canada because they value the profit
motive over the people motive.
They have said nothing regarding the plight of Marc Emery. Down with the NDP!!!! They suck!!! !!

2) Being pro-bank mergers are part of the NDP's shift to the right, like ALL parties.Previously, they were called commies and shut out of parliament.
3) Jack Layton issued a formal letter in total
opposition to the proposed extradition.
Attack Beaver blindly bashes the NDP.They aren't perfect,
but they are definitely a rational alternative to the Conservatives and Liberals.
