[When I read articles like this, Martin almost has me convinced. All I can say is more and more I'm concerned that my vote for the NDP would mean a vote for the conservatives.]--Kevin
Ottawa prepared to pump in money

KAMLOOPS, B.C. -- Prime Minister Paul Martin has vowed to end the years of "feuding and bickering" he says have stood in the way of a long-term agreement with the provinces to guarantee the future of Canadian health care.
"Smoke and fury leading to absolutely no decent conclusion," he said. "I'm telling you, we're going to end this."

If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?
1) wants a 10 year agreement to deal with sustainability (funding) and protection of universality.
2) the Premiers and he are meeting until they reach agreement as far as he is concerned
3) he is prepared to provide more funding
4) to meet expectations more than money is needed
5) the system needs deep transformative change
6) waiting lists must be reduced
7) must have access to doctors, nurses and best equipment when needed
So if I understand what he said
- great changes must be made but he doesn't say what they are,
- he will provide more funding but more than money is needed but he doesn't say what that would be,
- wants a 10 year deal but does not say what the talking points would be,
- wants waiting lists reduced, more staff and equipment, I would think that more money would solve that problem.
The real black hole is "deep transformative changes", what the frick is that and why does it remind me of a horror movie title? How can you let a guy get away with saying something like that without getting some clarification.
I think Jack Layton should challenge him to pass legislation, before the meeting with the Premiers and before the next election, which would prohibit any form of privatization of the health care system for the next ten years.
