Women Still Cool On Harper

"Assuming the throne speech is all about forming a majority government, from a research viewpoint it is most likely to yield another Conservative minority," Nanos wrote. "The underlying structural problem for the Conservatives is that they are not competitive among women. The priorities of the throne speech align quite well with the priorities of men, thus reinforcing the core Conservative vote but not addressing a strategy for growth."

Belinda Stronach, chair of the Liberal women's caucus, says it looks like Harper has written off his chances with women voters.

"The silence on women's issues speaks volumes, especially in a throne speech that was intended to trigger an unwanted election," Stronach told the Star. "It says Mr. Harper not only doesn't care about women's issues, he doesn't even care about their votes. It's shameful, but consistent with his record of cuts to the Status of Women and the court challenges program. To add insult to injury, this on the anniversary of the Famous Five - Harper's message is clear – women's issues are not on his priority list"

That assessment appears to be shared in initial polling done by Angus Reid, which shows far more approval by men for the major themes outlined in Harper government's throne speech – sometimes by almost a two-to-one ratio.

[What exactly is a women's issue? Of course there are business vs. labour laws/policies but I've never heard of a law that favours men over women (in 2007 anyway). -- NSay] [Proofreader’s note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 22, 2007]

I've never heard ANYONE talk about Harper where I live. It's almost as if he doesn't exist...if only that were true.

From the article: "When Angus Reid asked 1,018 respondents online to say
whether they were satisfied with key themes in the speech, men were far
more likely than women respondents to say they were. A full 50 per cent of
men liked what the speech had to say on Arctic sovereignty, while only 26 per
cent of women did. On crime legislation, 46 per cent of men were satisfied,
but only 29 per cent of women; on Afghanistan, 37 per cent of men, 22 per
    cent of women."

I have always been stone cold on Harper. In fact there is no one in his entire
party that I have an affinity with. They all seem to be people without heart.

While one day I do hope we won't be distinguishing men and women's issues
as different and that our values will concern the important things in life, me
being a woman can offer my opinon of why some woman would not support
Harper. Woman (while I know some men not afraid to show their emotional,
compassionate selves to the world) are usually more concerned about their
children's care, education, medical, food, safe environment, a roof over their
heads and understanding that money spent on wars and star wars while
people starve is not considered a way to keep peace on the planet nor a
rational place to spend our tax dollars.

Astrologically, when Harper was born there were more planets in feminine
(earth and water) signs than in masculine signs (fire and air) and
unfortunately he is acting so against his nature by being a bully and a war
monger that he will suffer for it. Too often men with more feminine,
sensitive, intuitive charts go the route of the "Me man" because their
homophibia keeps them from showing their feminine natures. Harper really
needs to be a home caring for his relationship and his children and taking up
some painting or creative writing classes. In my opinion he is so out of his
league trying to be a macho leader that he and Canada will suffer because of
    it.
