A quick overview shows the Island and Northwest US split into colourful countries.
Exercise Trident Fury, the second in two years, is an 11-day exercise utilizing nearly 60 warplanes from Canada, the US, Britain and a NATO component as well as six warships and about 2,000 soldiers, sailors and air crews. It provides training, communication and is a final test for a number of extensive military training courses. The exercises conclude today.
During the exercises, Fury also saw the first surface-to-air missile tests in the West Coast firing area.
Sea Sparrow missiles were fired from Canadian frigates at unmanned targets being towed over the Pacific about 40 to 60 kilometres off the west coast of Vancouver Island. While ships fired at aerial targets, warplanes strafed floating targets and conducted air-to-air combat exercises. Only Canadians participated in live-fire exercises.
