Sorry C#. I kept hearing that the NDP won 4 seats. Ray Martin, Raj Pannu, Brian Mason, and an unnamed 4th. I kept hoping that it was you, but until I read that article that said all 4 seats were in Redmonton, I held out hope. Alberta's loss, Vive's gain ;)

In Edmonton, the Liberals got nearly 60% of the popular vote! An in my own riding, the PC candidate got tossed by a Liberal.

Now for the scolding, all you apathetic Albertans! In cities such as St Albert and Spruce Grove, where the combined population is approaching 100,000 - when I see total voters at less than 10,000, I cringe. In the civic election last month, The Mayor of Spruce Grove won by Acclimation!!! No one bothered to run against him, even though he is quoted as saying "I think we should let businesses decide what is good for our city." WHAT??? Who runs your city again, Mr Mayor?

Does anyone else who studied the fall of the Roman empire see any paralells to today? The Romans (Canadians) , tired of useless politicians who lied to the people and spent like drunk sailors and the very heavy tax burden this caused the middle class, stood by and did nothing while the barbarian hordes invaded and took what they wanted.

I see the same kind of apathy when it comes to demanding that our government scrap NAFTA and save public health care, and ratify the Romanow Report! 1960`s- Wow! We live in the world`s greatest country! 1970`s - Ah, looks a little bleak, but things are still good. 1980`s- Well, all my neighbours are losing their jobs, but atleast I can take refuge in my case of beer and my new Atari! 1990`s- Holy shit! Well, atleast its not happening to me! 2000- WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN`T RETIRE?!?! I`VE BEEN WORKING MY WHOLE LIFE!!

But the Romans did not sit on a vaste quantity of fossil fuel that the world is addicted to. And they did not freeze their buttocks either or tell others to freeze in the dark. What about your Bread&Games? The Esquimooses or Stampeders against the BC Lions? I hope you can keep these welfare bums in the cowtown towers and in the legislative assembly. Oh well, it is just an other 4 more years...

What I'd like to know is what makes Klein so popular? Granted, only 47% of Albertans voted for him but here's a guy who hurled drunken insults at homeless people, plagiarized an essay, questioned the disability of those on disabled benefits, ran on a platform of nothing, and has no new ideas on where to take the Province. It's baffling.

Apathy is the biggest enemy these days.

I blame the corporate media outlets and those who control it. How else could a society have progressed to such a low point? Voting is only the first step, and people haven't even made it there.

Electoral reform at all levels is sorely needed. BC is the worst case example. Every seat but two(third in by-election) with less than 30% people of BC actually voting for the Lieberals. That makes people want to distance themselves from politics and government at the best of times. Now add in all the other BS and we get what we get.

Maybe we should make it the law to vote like in Australia!

<i>What I'd like to know is what makes Klein so popular?</i><p> He is at least, for the most part honest. He admits to these faults, and seeks to change them. Puts him a couple steps ahead of most politicians. We know they lie to us, but at least he admits when he does.<p> <p>---<br>"If you must kill a man, it costs you nothing to be polite about it." But then all you have is a bunch of uninformed people voting for *someone*. Do you want to take the chance that the Alberta Separation Party wins through dumb luck?
    You can't legislate smart ;)

    Three things:

The Alberta Dept of External Affairs (Ministry of Truth) is run by Ralph Klein.

The Bureaucracies of the ALberta Government are highly politicized

It's a case of: if it aint broke, don't fix it. Only a huge scandal would unseat the Klein government. People naturally beleive that not just any monkey with an abacus could balance the books in Alberta, so Klein gets in again.

Throw enough money into the pot, and a slug could run the province. Oh, wait a minute! It all ready is..............
