During his brief visit to Haiti on May 7, Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham wanted to find out what the political problems in that country were.

To refresh our memory, soon after the American and French-inspired ouster of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in February, approximately 475 Canadian soldiers were sent to Haiti to preserve peace, provide humanitarian aid and "save" democracy by replacing the elected Aristide government with one hand-picked by the Americans.

I don't know why we're all so concerned about giving the military more money when all a good U.S. housecleaner needs is a bottle of Mr. Clean, an apron, rubber gloves and a swifer duster. Infact I'd say they're overfunded for their purpose.

The only reason we need to beef up our military is so we can defend ourselves and not be so vulnerable to American pressure! As for our government doing Uncle Sam`s bidding, what else is new from these shameful, yet shameless puppets?

Aristide ditched his principles pretty quick after he smooth talked his way into power, the guy's a criminal. Haiti is such a basket case that it needs a strong intervention to restore order and build public institutions. Unfortunately Canada and the U.S. probably don't have the stomach for fixing Haiti in the long term, so that definition of graft and corruption called the United Nations will probably be brought in to pick a government that will provide their officials with the best kickbacks in foreign aid dollars. Perhaps the U.N. could send the Sudanese representative to Haiti?

Oh really? More like Aristide was left of centre politically, and that just didn`t sit well with imperial Washington! They even threatened Jamaica not to give Aristide asylum.
