I heard David Hahn on CBC radio on the drive home last night, and I for one, despite hating the fact that we brought him in as a big shot American CEO to run our poor ferry corp, was very impressed with him.
He was straight forward, open, and very honest about all questions posed. I particularly liked his response to why lawyers representing clients in the class action suite were targeting BC Ferries as liable for the accident.
to the words of, 'Well, to be frank, that's what lawyers do, they are seeking big monetary settlements for their clients and themselves, and I am not surprised at all'. He also acknowledged that despite the fact that the bridge officer was ultimately responsible for the navigation of the ship on his watch, BC Ferries is responsible for the training of those people, the equipment they were using, and the procedures they were following on that night, and they do take full responsibility in that regard.
I personally think that anyone who claims they were poorly trained should not have signed off on running that ship, knowing the dangers to passengers and crew, and such a claim is cowardly and reprehensible. I also think that those two refusing to cooperate in the inquiries is also cowardly and reprehensible, and I hope after Hahn fires their sorry asses , they never work on anything bigger than the shrimper that helped them that night again.
