I'm surprised the youth voter turnout would be that high; Within my high-school, of the grade twelves that are of voting age, I'd imagine only 20-30% would actually vote. It really is sad how apathetic my generation is to politics...

    Welcome to Vive Blackbox!

I'm 24 years old now and I must say that when I was a
teenagre politics and voting was not of any interest to
me. Actually it never was an interest until I was 23
years old and picked up a book that talked about the
concerns of Canada's Sovereignty. It was concerns about
Canada becoming part of the U.S that drove me into being
interested and making sure my vote counted.

I believe that if more youth's were to find out about
Canada's future as being part of the United States many
would be against this. I believe there would be some who
would support it, however there would be frew. Maybe I'm
    wrong, but I highly dought.

The Canadian values, Canadian culture is still very much
alive. Canadians won't let Canada be taking over by the
U.S, just like they did did to puerto rico, Hawaii, parts
of Mexico, parts of Canada, California. All through trade
agreements. Yep they were all independent at one time. I
heard recently Puerto Rico was still fighting for its
independence back to the way they were. We have a chance
in Canada to not even let this happen.

I'm a young Canadian (23) and my sibling is even younger (17). I care about politics, but i'm the exeption. My peers can't name the opposition leader, for example. My sibling and that individual's peers don't know what the cold war or the USSR were. The stats are right. Young people don't know enough or care enough about politics to vote.

Young people are often indoctrinated by their NDP/socialist teachers while they're in school. But, when they get out and have to start paying exorbitant taxes for wasteful programs they see the error of nanny state socialism.

Believe it or not, as early as 8 years old, I paid attention to politics. I asked my mom, "Mom, who`s the boss of Canada?" And she replied fondly, " Pierre Trudeau is our Prime Minister." I then asked, " We don`t have a president?" And she said, " No, we`re not like the United States." I was curious as to who was our 'boss' and why. I could sense that my mom liked Pierre, so I paid more attention. I also remember watching Mr.Trudeau debate in the house in the early 80`s. NOBODY COULD HOLD A CANDLE TO HIM!!! As much as he downplayed the nationalism thing, he genuinely cared about Canada! He was brilliant!! But in 1984 his time came up, as he was the lone left of centre politician in a giant neo-conservative sea. Canadians wanted a change, but instead we got a curse! I also remember in 1988 as an 18 year old trying to tell people not to vote PC because the so called 'free trade' agreement would mean the death of Canada! Some listened, some thought I was just a loudmouth kid ( that I was) but many succumbed to the smooth talking Mulroney. All I can say is, I hope young people in this great country of ours become more politically literate, or freedom will perish!
