Taser Stun Guns Are A Form Of Torture: UN Committee

Posted on Saturday, November 24 at 11:40 by N Say
Three men, all in their early 20s, were reported to have died in the United States this week, days after a Polish man died at Vancouver airport after being tasered by Canadian police. The man, Robert Dziekanski, 40, fell to the ground and died after the police officers piled on top of him. There have been three deaths in Canada after the use of Tasers over the past five weeks. The company that makes the weapons has said that similar deaths have been shown by "medical science and forensic analysis" to be "attributable to other factors and not the low-energy electrical discharge of the Taser." The UN committee made its comments in recommendations to Portugal, which has bought the newest Taser X26 stun gun for use by police. Portugal "should consider giving up the use of the Taser X26," as its use can have a grave physical and mental impact on those targeted, which violates the UN's Convention against Torture, the experts said. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=afec3718-2b53-429d-9686-1008b6bb9611&k=82270

This news certainly gave me a jolt.

Taser stun guns are a form of torture: UN committee,

Which in turn make the police the sadistic torturers?

That Amnesty International report seems to catalogue every incident where in their view a taser was used inappropriately. That includes situations such as:
    - tasering a jaywalker
    - tasering a 15 year old while in a jail cell
    - using a taser to wake up two hotel guests in the middle of the night
    - two undercover police officers who didn't identify themselves using a taser on a 17 year old who was running from them
    - man with cerebral palsy & other mental conditions got tasered 27 times as he fell while being evicted
    - tasering a man after being wrongly accused of not paying a taxi fare
    - car thief was pursued by 6 police officers & got kicked in the head, broken fingers & tasered
    - 20-year-old tasered while handcuffed to a bench & later developed PTSD
    - off-duty officer tasered two teenagers acting "suspiciously" near his neighbour's vehicle
    - man tasered after nodding off in his parked car
    - tasering a man passed out at a bar
    - tasering a man after he refused to put out his cigarette at a bar

    etc etc

Amnesty Intl called that sort of thing "cruel, inhuman or degrading" treatment, which is precisely the definition of torture, just look it up.
