Why Tax Cuts Make Us Weak

The entire taxation system and how wasteful and poorly run government programs are forced upon everyone is the real problem here. Both cutting taxes or increasing taxes won't solve anything.

Of course, in this case the tax cuts will only favor the very rich leaving the middle (or what's left of it) to take up the slack.

The mess continues to get worse under Harper.

What a load of nonsense and only goes to prove the point of how bent out of shape the logic is for most left leaning pundits. The above comments are precisley the reason the conservative mindset is becoming more prevalent and rightly so. Between the assumption that somehow government programs are the end all and solution to all problems which in of itself only displays fuzzy mindeness and weak logic and not only that but Flaherty was right on CPAC when he said that the Liberal mindset shows that they believe that the tax money belongs to the government when it doesn't it belongs to the canadian people. Our social programs and infrastructure are no where near in a crisis mode and for the most part this is a provincial area anyways which is why the equalization to the provinces has been increased significantly of late. Watch what happens in the future because the next move Harper will make will be a big reduction in federal income tax more than likely in the spring budget though they doth protest too much at the moment he will probably stagger it forward.

neo-con dystopia?! third-world status?! If Dobbin really thinks that I doubt he even read the economic update. (it is 152 dense pages after all) It said the taxes will be what they were when Lester Pearson was prime minister. What's so bad about that? The government will still have major surpluses (although the projections vary), will still pay down the debt ($10 billion this year I believe), and doesn't seem to plan on cutting spending, not for infrastructure & municipalites anyway. With the surpluses the government can still pay down the debt & pay for the things he mentioned. People like Dobbin make themselves look like fools when they try to say the government is doing nothing about our infrastructure, when the government has committed a practically unlimited source of funding for it. & since the federal government's contributions are almost always more than matched by the provincial governments & other partners, in practice that amount is more than doubled. Jean Charest has also said that Quebec will commit many billions to upgrade Quebec's infrastructure and make sure future governments can't divert funds away from it. The government's reason for this huge tax cut was because the economy is doing a lot better than expected, and because of the rapidly-increasing value of the dollar. Competitiveness was hardly even mentioned in the update, and when it is, it's usually competitiveness of the tax policy, not the business themselves. Dobbin doesn't have his facts straight at all. One part of the tax cut plan that might create concern for people (that I've found so far) is that the corporate tax rate will undercut the US's by 2012 (iirc). Other than that I don't really have a problem with this. As long as programs like housing, homelessness, etc can get the funding they need and other funding doesn't get cut of course.

but it is all underconrooll of the intenational banking community put the power of issuing money back in the hands of the people through legitimate goverment and there will be no need for these sensless arguments

Gee this was good timing. Dobbin's comments about "crumbling infrastructure" seem all the more laughable after reading this a couple minutes ago:<br />

Murray Dobbin is quite persistent and unapologetic in his pleas for higher taxes, less private enterprise and bigger, more intrusive government. I have to admire his shamelessness in declaring that we need even more government in our lives.

If I had to come up with a straw man caricature of the Canadian social democrat, it would look remarkably like Dobbin. Because of him, I don't have to.

The 1st thing wrong with this is the title, "lets pay"...

WaitafochinMinut...lets get clear just who pays who. The workers of this country who pay their wages of fiat currency to taxes and interest are the ones who actually 'Pay'...with their labour!

Sure a cut in the GST is tastey treat just before christmas, but its just that, candy. The beef is in the Roast-Basturd of the debt! still well over 500 Billion! It takes ove 20 cents tossed in the Atlantic on every buck I PAY to cover the interest on that puppy! with an extra 8 billion a year we could retire our national debt in 20 yrs and save over 60 billion in interest along the way. There is no greater threat or burden to the security and prosperity of this country than our National Debt, trust me, I actually PAY TAXES!

*** KILL THE FOCHIN DEBT ***

...start using the Bank of Canada for our provincial loans, reap the savings, eliminate Income and sales tax altogether, tell the World Bank and the IMF to Foch-Awf!
