Police Apologize For Injuring Polish Man In Mistaken Arrest

The man, a 27-year-old new immigrant who doesn't speak English, suffered cuts to his face and a scraped knee. After a marked police vehicle arrived, officers discovered they had the wrong man. Police offered the mistakenly arrested man medical attention and took him to his place of employment, as requested. "We're doing the right thing for the right reasons," Thiessen said. "It's an unfortunate set of circumstances and coincidence that this gentleman's first language is Polish." Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski, who also didn't speak English, died at Vancouver International Airport in October after being stunned by an RCMP Taser. Dziekanski was emigrating to Canada to join his mother in Kamloops and became agitated after spending 10 hours at the airport, apparently uncertain how to find his mother, who also looked for him.
