Indeed, most MPs referred to the divide in public opinion only to bemoan it. "I believe that if Canadians and Quebecers knew the real story, support for our troops would be much stronger than it is," said Bloc MP Claude Bachand.

Conservative Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day blamed what he called "broadcasters" for not giving "a fair picture of what we are doing in Afghanistan."
