So I wonder where Debra Grey sits on this one?
There is no Time or space with a Haper regime, only
    money, blood and power!

Perhaps we should ask the retired Ms. Gray. (Grey ?)

She isn't shy, I'm sure we would get an answer.

With the appropriate amount of Spin, of course.

Don't get me wrong, I would sooner eat my ballot than vote Conservative.

That said, I wonder how many parents who would rather stay home with kids end up putting them in daycare and going off to work to subsidize their spouses income to a liveable level. After taxes, daycare and the other expenses of working, the second net income is minimal, where I live it's an average of $400/mo. Giving the principle earner a sufficient tax credit to allow the spouse to stay home with the kids means more jobs and daycare spaces become available. Then there's the benefit of having fewer tweens and youth unsupervised, fewer kids getting sent to school to share germs because both parents have to go to work. I love the idea of supporting parents in doing their most important job, raising their children.

The bullshit in this plan is that this does seem to be designed to benefit only traditional families, the same support would not be extended to single parents. Until we sufficiently value the work of parents in a spendable way, they will have few choices beyond letting others raise their kids while they chase the almighty dollar.

For myself, I would rather tighten my purse strings and forego the big house...you couldn't pay me enough to leave raising my kids to someone else, and $400/mo. sure as hell wouldn't drag me away from them.

I hear you loud and clear. Consider automobile maintenance, car insurance, gasoline, lunches, clothing, day care, etc., and I see quite clearly that the second income earner in the average family doesn't contribute a lot to the overall wealth of the family, and let's face it, the wife has many more hours to put in at the end of the day.

However, in this age there are more women with ambitions that can be achieved within the right career choice, so who is harper to tell them to stay out of the work force.

Most families these days are putting off having children until later in life, and I both agree and disagree on this.

At one time couples married in their late teens and early twenties, but in my region of Ontario and looking at family and friends, they are waiting longer to tie the knot.

It's not up to harper to tell us who can and cannot work, so if he throws roadblocks in your way, shove them aside and live your life.

You people are evidently very ignorant with respect to your knowledge of the Conservative Party. Perhaps before you start demonizing the Conservatives, you should learn about what they stand for. I, personally, am a 25 year old female who is a card-carrying conservative. I am currently attending medical school and, quite frankly, I have no fears of my rights being stripped away once I get into the work force. It is evident that you have fallen prey to Mr. Martins dirty campaign tricks usually reserved for dictators: propaganda and direction of popular discontent. So, before you start preaching false information about how Mr. Harper will strip females of their rights and freedoms, perhaps you should educate yourself on politics. It makes me sick that Canadians are trained to believe that the Liberals are the only party for "the bright future of Canada". So, my message to you, and to people like you, is to stop being so apathetic and fallicious in your statements and take the time to truly get to know the alternative. I can assure you that it is not as scary as the Liberals make it sound!

    Anon,

That is where your ignorance is showing. I am a Green and the Liberals have absolutely no bearing on how I vote other than I don't want Libs or Cons running my Canada. Maybe you need to look at the NDP or Green Party policies and you may find youself ripping up your Con card and changing your career choice as it could be obsolete if we have governments willing to change the way our planet and food sources are cared for. Or maybe that's your motivation for voting Cons? Keep us all sick.

I also think you better reread the comments because I don't think anyone was making the claim you are.

Toronto Star's Linda McQuaig gets herself so contorted and convuluted in order to launch attacks it's incredible. The Star has always promoted hateful propaganda when it suits their agenda, but McQuaig always takes it over the top, she's their biggest bigot.

So - no specific critique of her article? Just a bunch of ranting.

    Thanks, Anon.

Funny how that 25 year old Anon accuses people here of ignorance yet show's her own ignorance. And what she doesn't understand is the majority of Canadians down't vote Liberal so again her statements don't make any sense.

Also 25 year old Anon for the record the main reason why I don't support Mr. Harper and the New Conservative Party for that matter. Is cause they believe in more integration with the U.S. That is not the way for us to go. Trade is important but the path we are taking has been tried and the results are for anyone to see. Puerto Rico and Hawaii both have tried this integration idea and signed trade agreements, and today they are part of the U.S and are not independent. The agreements benefited one side as they are here in Canada as well. They benefit the U.S. The similarities of Canada's path since Mulroney's signature on trade agreements are there for anyone to see.

Until the Conservative start representing real Conservative ideas that founded allot of what Canada is today, I will never vote Conservative. Conservatives once believed in a strong Canada independent and owning allot of our own culture, natural resources and services. Now with this New Conservative Party they seem to want this up for grabs in the market where the U.S is sure to pick it all up.

Where is your leader that speaks about a independent Canada that becomes a strong independent Country and not just a colony of the U.S? Where is that leader Anon?

    Kevin
