We are at a loss here in America. We have the experts and political technicians working day and night to fix the problem, but so far, they have just come up with further problems.
But I do have a solution. I think all those expensive computers should be turned into instruments that store the world’s great literature and a true accounting of world history, with an introduction by Noam Chomsky. These computers should be made available then, in community learning centers for all people to come and learn and research, write and create.
As far as the voting machine goes, that will be replaced with the voting box, paper, and pen. I hear some little crybaby whining, “But how can we have instant results?” To which I say, freedom and democracy was never instant, never won for all time, and must be won over and over every day. When you deny someone food, when you deny someone a place to live, when you deny someone a place on this earth, that is a loss of democracy, and the beginning of tyranny, something that Americans don’t even bat an eye at, so terrified are they that that Indians or the Arabs might turn and seek a just revenge for all those murders and theft of property done in the name of freedom and democracy.
No, I would say that taking the time to count all the votes is but a small price to pay for democracy.
