Free Trade Gave Canadians A Better Life, Mulroney Says

Outside the hotel, peaceful protesters expressed their displeasure with the controversial agreement.

Organizer Hans Marotte said free trade has only brought more wealth to the rich.

"But the people who are on welfare, the people who get unemployment benefits, people who work hard for little pay, they're not richer," she said.

Prime minister from 1984 to 1993, Mulroney has been in the public as of late after releasing his memoirs.

The Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement was signed in 1988 amid massive national debate over whether it would reduce Canada's political independence.

    And we all know that lyin' Brian ALWAYS told the truth, right?

    I'm sure ol' Brian made out like a bandit, but the working stiffs on both sides of the border are worse off, according to recent news stories.
