BC's Fast Cat Ferries May Be Back On Nanaimo Service!

The three aluminum-hulled ferries cost the province $454 million to build, but WMG paid just $20 million at auction in March 2003. The trio of 122.5-metre catamarans has been tied up since then. His company is proposing a passenger-only service between Vancouver harbour and Duke Point. Fuel consumption was one reason the B.C. government mothballed the FastCats, but Washington Marine Group would save on fuel by running only two engines instead of four. Operating speed would be 21 knots, similar to B.C. Ferries. http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/story.html?id=d6423162-c021-4d11-95178b7cf811d643&k=9237 © Times Colonist (Victoria) 2005
