Bid To Give Bush The Boot

Posted on Sunday, March 12 at 11:57 by 4Canada
And so, at the end of a five-hour meeting, the assembled were asked to consider: "Whereas George W. Bush has: "1. Misled the nation about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction; "2. Misled the nation about ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda; "3. Used these falsehoods to lead our nation into war unsupported by international law; "4. Not told the truth about American policy with respect to the use of torture; and "5. Directed the government to engage in domestic spying, in direct contravention of U.S. law; "Therefore, the voters of the town of Newfane ask that our representative to the U.S. House of Representatives file articles of impeachment to remove him from office." All in favour?: 129. All opposed?: 21. Meeting adjourned. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1142031016188&call_pageid=968332188492&col=968793972154&t=TS_Home

Add one more crime to the litany. Clear evidence has been given in a book called "The Book On Bush" of insider trading being committed by Bush when he was a director of Harken Energy. While it may not count towards an impeachment since it occurred before his presidency (I'm not sure of this requirement), if Martha Stewart can serve time for it so can Bush. In essence, this book gives details of Bush's knowledge of Harken Energy's bad financial straits (they were broke) and impending stock meltdown before he sold his shares. It actually points to a letter sent by Harken attorneys to Bush advising that it would not be prudent for him to sell shares at the time, which was written to Bush after he had sought their counsel on the matter. This investigation is still open with the SEC.

While it would be nice to see Bush go sooner rather than later, it also worries me about who would be left behind, namely Cheney; God forbid that he should get his hands on that kind of power now or somehow use it to launch another four years after Bush. It may be better for the world if Bush is allowed to complete the drowning of the Republican Party with his lies and incompetence than risk a worse alternative by seeking some short-term satisfaction.

I think this type of news is heavily censored in the US media; Feingold's motion yesterday was on the radio. If more (larger) cities and towns would pass resolutions like this one, something might start stirring.
