Parliamentary Committee Rules CPC Style!

Might be interesting to know if the Liberals have a similar book for when they
are the government? This is indeed revealing though, it shows intent. Intent to
promote themselves, their agenda, which in my mind has very little to do with
working for Canadians in the best interest of Canadians. Arrogance and egos
really have to go - if we are ever to expect to be represented in parliament.

Maybe it is time to put a legally binding rule on every Canadian governing party that they can only act with consensus and approval of the Canadian citizenship and not act on its own accord?

I had always understood that Parliamentary Committees were where the real work gone done, I’m sure that they were always somewhat partisan but this shows a real effort to subvert the PROCESS. When we add the obvious effort previously, and still continuing, to control not only the message from the PMO but also the ability of our elected (CPC) representatives to openly discuss issues with their constituents then we approach dictatorship. Each political party has their faults and particular methodology but this sort of thing, whether it has occurred before or not, makes me sick and truly concerned for the future of Canada as a democratic nation.
It makes me wonder what kind of processes are in place to deal with stalled committee hearings. Is the government of the day in total control of the process or are there set rules in place, judging from this it would seem that the total disregard for any cooperation or civility as shown daily in question period has spread to previously more productive areas.
That ANY of our elected MPs tolerate this, let alone participate in it, is simply beyond belief.

Think about this article and what is is speaking to. What we have here is more proof that political parties are out of control and they are high-jacking "YOUR" government.

Don't you think it is about time we look towards reforming this dirty corrupt system? Don't you understand that as long as we keep voting and supporting this system, all we are doing is justifying a dirty parliamentry system?

If Canada is to remain a nation, then we better wake up pretty soon. Political parties are not our friends, they are our enemy and the countries enemy.

When you look at what this article is saying, then surely you must understand that the House of Commons is not working in the best interest of Canada.

parties and the Conservatives are just one of them.

I watched Jay Hill and Van Loen all week disregard the complaints of Liberals
and NDPers that Conservatives were
obstructing the work they were trying to do. They bold-faced lied to
Canadians and they all should be run out of the HOC and be cut
off from our tax dollar pay cheques. I can't stomach this group of individuals.
They all act and look subhuman to me. Rona Ambrose looks like one of those
Hula dolls nodding her head in the back window of some old sedan with
turkey balls tacked along the dashboard as she sits in the background
agreeing with every retarded comment Harper makes. I'd like to stretch her
bobble neck spring so far out you'd be looking up her grass skirt.

Sadly, Jay Hill is one of the Conservatives from the Prince George area of BC, the other is Dick Harris.

This city has a habit of voting for narrow minded rednecks who can't be bothered with considering the consequences of their actions.

As long as most of them have their 4x4, pick-up truck, and a job, oh yeah and cold beers to guzzle, they'd just as soon remain happily oblivious to what their choices at the polls have help create.

The only part I heard that "stuck" was a reporter saying that the members were pulling in $150,000 in salary, plus "expenses", AND they get a free buffet!

We all know that the Parliamentary system as it operates today is total BS. So why are we surprised at the antics of these prepubescent boys and girls...........?

“At the August summer retreat national caucus meeting it was formally announced that committees, as generations of MPs had known them, were no more. Instead of being potential windows into the system for voters, they would become – at least for the Conservatives – party organs. Caucus members sat and listened as usual, in silence. But I could clearly see some more experienced MPs squinting in disbelief.<br />
A PMO insider took the podium and made several announcements, which had the weight and force of the prime minister. First, committee chairs were ordered to meet regularly with the party leadership (Jay Hill and then House Leader Rob Nicholson), and instructed to follow an agenda supportive of the government. That would include tactics to prevent expert witnesses from testifying who might be hostile, as well as techniques to disrupt meetings and shoot down the opposition, including filibustering, agenda alterations, and quick adjournments.<br />
Then, he went further.<br />
ALL CONSERVATIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, HE SAID, WILL NO LONGER OPERATE AS INDIVIDUAL MPS. THEY WILL NOT SPEAK IN COMMITTEE OR ASK QUESTIONS WITHOUT THE PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE CHAIR OR THE PS. All Tory MPs on committee are required to caucus immediately prior to every committee meeting, to plan strategy, line up questions for witnesses, and hear the government’s agenda for the meeting. The Chief Government Whip would have a representative taking attendance at the pre-meeting meeting, and there would “be consequences” for those members who did not show up.”<br />
