With so many jobs and so much of the economy resting on the industry's long-term health, one can only wonder why there is not more of a sense of urgency among governments in addressing the challenges.
[...]
Complacency or defeatism will take us in only one direction. However, working together, the industry, governments and communities can take the necessary steps to right the ship. We have most of the necessary ingredients: Fibre, energy, water and a skilled, innovative workforce. With renewed investment and a supportive government policy environment, the industry would be the best positioned in the world to take advantage of the growth in global demand.
[...]
The path to renewal will not happen on its own, nor will it happen painlessly. We are headed in the right direction, but much too slowly. Unless reforms take more urgent place on the government agenda, a great number of competitors will be all too happy to sit at the table and eat Canada's lunch. Most of these competitors will be from countries that have poorer environmental records than Canada.
Should we fail to rise to the challenge, not only will our economy suffer, but so too will the environment.

Whenever somebody screams for more competition, shows that the person is either ignorant, or attempts to mislead people, because all forms of competition demand increased energy/resource inputs and therefore raise and transfer costs. The claim that competition lowers costs is an outright lie.
Foreign investment is a fraud, as anybody in business should know, because when a business/country has resources, it has capital, without selling itself off.
What this jerk and his gang are planning is the importation of Mexican labour under the SPP, because the fraudulent concept of "productivity" means "the lowest wages paid for the highest profits".
The Interior of BC is already forcibly depopulated, schools etc. are closing all over, with the corporations planning for camps for imported labour in the forest and mining industries. To become "more productive" of course.
And this fraudulent garbage is being taught in our universities as the "science of economics".

Figure it out! In this area, when we still had the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding in 3 union towns, plus the outlying communities, PC was the rule time after time, then our Reform "invisible MP" Philip Mayfield was returned with record majoriities, now we have the warmed up Reform fossil Dick Harris firmly entrenched in 4 forestry/mining union towns.
Ed Deak. Big Lake, BC.
While there are many Canadians who are not globalists there is no major political party that questions the direction that globalism is taking us. They are all globalist parties whether we like it or not because the large corporate class that funds the Liberals and Conservatives promote globalism.
The NDP, because of its union affiliation, tries to play both sides of the fence. In doing so they lose creditability. The major unions are dependent on globalized corporations and hence promote their interests. The NDP ends up supporting the taxpayer subsidization of these global capitalist industries in order to retain unionized jobs.
I don’t know if it is a sinister plot, mere coincidence, paranoia or what I do however find myself checking the political leanings of those in positions to affect my, and your lives<br />

He pointed out that the structure of the military community is, in fact, quite similar to the Jewish community ... . The mountain pine beetle that was made into a big problem by the forestry industries rap-and-pillage practices, the U.S. housing crisis that is still ruining the forests and making these companies a killing, a Canadian dollar near parity with its U.S. counterpart which is great for just about everyone else, high energy costs which is a direct result of shipping it off to the USA in exchange for ever increasingly worthless US currency, export taxes that are a courtesy of that old NAFTA scam, and emerging low-cost global competitors are leaving the industry very vulnerable -- more so than it has been in decades
Boo-hoo-hoo, cry me a river.
