Time To Wake Up!

The powers that be, over time, have systematically weakened our resolve and eroded our ability to recognize tyranny in all its subtle and not so subtle forms. Entertainment, materialism, encouraged self-indulgence, ignorance and idol worship in its various forms and guises, have been deftly used to distract and blind us to this change. The psychological grip of that comfortable armchair can be very strong indeed. We have all been conditioned on an unprecedented level, never in all of history have the elements of control had so much power willingly placed in their hands. We are being blindly led towards the edge of a very dangerous precipice; we may not be able to recover from the fall, this time around. Governments have become secretive and the public has a lesser effect on policy. Our voices have become smaller and like the mosquito buzzing in your ear on a summer day, we have become a mere annoyance to be dealt with rather than a force with which to be reckoned. This has to change and it is up to us. A concentrated media, held hostage in the crushing grip of a few calloused corporate hands, is forced to sift truth through the fine mesh of a bottom line. News and information, absolutely essential to freedom and democracy, does not seem to reach the general public in a manner that allows people to make informed decisions that impact their society as a whole. The information is out there, if you look. People in the know are again warning us, as they have been for centuries, that unchecked government turns tyrannical. History has proven this over and over again. The poet John Milton once said: “Nations grown corrupt love bondage more than liberty; bondage with ease than strenuous liberty”. In our complacency we have become like the frog in the pot of water, slowly being heated to the boiling point. Each time the temperature increases, it becomes progressively more uncomfortable but it is accepted until ultimately the frog dies. Thrown straight away into a pot of boiling water, the frog would surely jump out immediately. Can you feel the heat? And we are okay with this? Government, corporations, the moneychangers, the media and YOU are as fingers on the same hand used to control that heat. We need to restore balance. Educate yourself, speak up and get involved. Our silence and acquiescence only signifies complicity. Drug addiction, mental illness, stress, food banks, poverty, homelessness, taxes, violence, illiteracy, poor healthcare, vanishing social programs, discrimination, crime, illegal wars, mediocre education, prostitution, slavery (yes, even today), ignorance, intolerance, terrorism (the real kind), and many more are all festering sores, symptomatic of an ailing society that has been ravaged by the insidious evils of corruption, unconstrained government, the bottom line and especially an ill informed and an increasingly apathetic public. Our freedom is in real danger; but I am absolutely convinced that given the tools, a well-informed public can restore our once proud nation back to health. Democracy may not be perfect but it is the best we have; consider the alternatives because they are most certainly considering you. It’s time to wake up! A call to action; short, eloquent and to the point. EVERY Canadian should read this piece and keep reading it till it sinks in that we are all in a heating pot and we're all going to cook in it if we don't take action. It is time to turn this back into a free country and we're gonna need all the help we can get. The crooks who own it aren't just going to hand it back to us; we'll have to fight for it.

I does my heart and mind good to read what you have presented, and Thank You for it too. Catherine

For long now I have been sounding the clarion using those very words. Although I have trouble with the written word, more often than not, I can be quite eloquent as a speaker. Even, then though, in my time, most have chosen to remain in the illusion.
To my mind it has always been the artists, musicians, poets, writers and thinkers who have lead the way. Once they have been silenced we will live in a colourless world

It's ironical you posted this artical now. Today as I was driving, I too was contemplating exactly what you say. How over the years our own personal freedoms are slowly being erroded away. All excuses may be valid but the point is we loose in different respects. Anti-smoking to make one feel like a criminal, disallowing different paint on a house in a neighbour hood and forgetting your car keys in your car is the crime greater then the theft of the car. We brought a lot on ourselves. We are no longer tolerant of other people or anything they do that we can't agree on. No patience in our lives and demands for "improvements. We expect more as if enough is not enough.

When you get my age and look back 40 years, you think how life was more simpler then. It was only simpler because less rules were being demanded. I recall a few years back when a convience store was under fire for selling cigarette papers to a juvenile. The complaint was that the kid put other substances in his roll. The family wasn't upset about the kid smoking pot but over the fact he was able to buy the paper. We all know what's happened since. Rules we demanded but not enforced by ourselves. Society today is inviting domineering controls. "There aught to be a law against it".

I can recall once telling my wife, who was next to me driving the car, that it was almost impossible to go through a day without breaking at least one law. She said "No way, it's not that bad!", so I said "Well, I think you're breaking the law right now", She asks, "How so?". So I told her that she was doing 65 in a 50 zone which is against the law.

Government by crisis, one crisis after another. The goal is to create so many laws that you have to be a lawbreaker. This is supposed to keep us in line because we will always have something to hide. Corporations want less laws restricting them and more laws protecting them from public oversight. The governments oblige them saying that they are holding jobs hostage and therefore must be kowtowed to.

It is time to overhaul the common law. Time for us to be the supreme judges and the legislators. Demand referendums on all government legislation. Demand 100% proportional representation.

To my knowledge, the only middle class revolution to succeed was the American Insurrection a couple of hundred years ago. Most other revolutions succeeded when the mass of the people became so desperate they had nothing left to lose. We have a long way to go on that score and nothing will happen until we DO there. Revolutions are not fought over points of law.

BTW, the American version of revolution had more to do with the British wanting to keep the colonies couped up on the east coast, and away from the riches becoming apparent farther inland. A far cry from starving in the streets......

"can restore our once proud nation back to health."

Somebody please tell me when this golden era was. When was it that we had more freedom than today? When was it that we had access to more information? When was the media less biased? When did corporations or governments or some other insidious organization (like say the church) not hold sway over our lives? When governments were more accountable to the people? When corruption was less rampant? When the offices of the state held more respect?

Tell me when and where this fabled promised land was children... that we may return to it's lush meadows and sunny hills.

    When and where?

The British created American "insurgents" willing to die fighting the British, by commiting atrocities against the colonists who originally resisted peacefully. When you see your mom and dad getting humiliated, or worse, in front of your helpless eyes, it does things to you even if your belly is full.

Sure you have freedom...the freedom to do what you're told.
