Story: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/financialpost/story.html?id=ef788840-ec3f-4536-8253-7c35660cc4aa&k=70073 My thoughts: See, I told you this was coming. Man-made global warming is a hoax created to perpetuate a global carbon tax.

"Man-made global warming is a hoax created to perpetuate a global carbon tax."

I think that's wrong. It's not a hoax, the evidence that the climate is changing is there - the cause being humans alone is the hoax.

Way to go Quebec! Another revenue stream found! More money to waste! Yea, that was sarcasm. How does making candles and lawn fertilzer more expensive contribute to reducing carbon emissions?

Want to bet that this new tax income will be added to general revenues? (ie: bread and circuses?)

    Well said DC!

All I would add is that there already is a fuel tax, so calling it a "carbon tax" is just a spin on words in an attempt to make a tax increase appear to be for some specific purpose that is somehow "good" for the environment.

Taxing fuel to death will not motivate people to figure out ways to reduce carbon, instead we'll just be taxed backwards into the stone age.

Ahh my friend, it does not apply only to fuel! Quote:

"Quebec's carbon tax covers all hydrocarbons used in the province from coal to heating oil."

So, 'all hydrocarbons' also means paraffin for candles, plastic garbage bags, fertilizer - all the things we derive from Oil! So I don't believe them when they say things like: "The tax, Bechard said, is based on the "polluter pays" principle. "That is not negotiable," the minister said." and "that he hopes the oil companies, which are reporting record profits, would absorb the tax and not pass it on to the consumer."

Bwahahahahahaha! And they'll buy it up like "I love you" "The cheque is in the mail" and "I won't {bla bla bla}. . ."

"that he hopes the oil companies, which are reporting record profits, would absorb the tax and not pass it on to the consumer."

What part of "reporting record profits" does that idiot not understand?

Yeah, it's the 'man-made' part that is not true. Our contribution can be measured in the less than one percentile, if that. Scientists have been monitoring the temperature increases on the surface of all the planets in our solar system. The results are conclusive that the temperatures are rising equally on each one. This leaves only one cause. Its the sun.

    Two words: money grab.

Also, the major greenhouse gas in terms of sheer volume is water vapour.

carbon based gases make up, if memory serves .04 of .01 percent of atmospheric volume.

can anyone say: pay up, sucker?

Use the same pacing as Elmer Fudd did while singing "Kill da Wabbit".
