The American Right Talks About Canada

Posted on Friday, May 06 at 11:14 by sthompson
"Canada is, quite simply, not a serious country anymore... And that's why a little invasion is precisely what Canada needs. In the past, Canada has responded to real threats with courage and conviction (some say more Canadians went south to enlist for war in Vietnam than Americans went north to dodge it). If the U.S. were to launch a quick raid, blow up some symbolic but unoccupied structure -- Toronto's CN Tower, or an empty hockey stadium -- Canada would rearm overnight. " - American conservative Jonah Goldberg, from Bomb Canada, National Review, November 25, 2002. More: http://www.intheirownwords.ca/rightoncanada.html

Great diversionary post. The Conservatives have launched a serious and credible attempt to take over the government of Canada, the BQ/PQ are continuing their methodical route to separation, and we are asked to divert our attention to some American right-wing nut cases. I wonder if the poster in this case isn’t working for either the Conservatives or the BQ/PQ. We've got serious issues to address -- unless of course the point is some recreational American-bashing.

    Are you kidding? Susan?

    Oh! You're new here! Welcome!

Then this must be about recreational America bashing. I can get into it...

Exactly. The compulsive preoccupation with America is one reason why Banada is a world-class joke.

Think of it as leading a jackass around by a carrot - Canadians can be easily distracted from their sorry reality by engaging in "recreational" USA-bashing.

Not only can we be led around, but we quite enjoy it.

Sooo, Tucker Carlson, Ann Coulter, Pat Buchannan, Bill O'Riley, Jonah Goldberg and the others speak for all Americans? They represent all of America? Are the quotes somehow incorrect?

Or, do you just have a thin skin?

Then perhaps reading this might change your mind.
You are right about there being a "compulsive preoccupation". It's not on this side of the border, though!
P.S. And there's more where that came from. If you are interested, just say the word and I'll provide some other links.

Oh, you sad little person. Your refusal to address CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS in your country only underlines my point.

You know I used to hate Buchanan for what he said about Canada, but the more I read from him, he blasts the neocons in the Bush government more than he does Canada. At least he is half way there. Read his weekly column over at antiwar.com for an excellent conservative viewpoint of everything that is wrong with the Bush government and the ditto-heads here in Canada.

Yes, we Bloc/Conservative spies like to run in federal elections for the NDP--twice, since I'm nominated to run again this time around--it's part of our nefarious plans. LOL!
You'll notice, anonymous, I HAVE also posted a number of articles about the current situation in politics in this country--one of them just today (the one from the Harvard Crimson). In fact, you can just click on "more by sthompson" at right on any one of the posts by me to see a list of everything I've posted.
You can even vote in the poll about Stephen Harper forcing an election--also posted by me, because apparently I am so intent on diverting attention from the possibility of an election.
Or hey, here's a thought, what about actually looking around the site the US conservative quotes are from, which is actually a site of quotes mostly made by Stephen Harper and other Canadian Conservatives??? If you bothered to follow the link.
As for it being recreational American bashing, I thought the quotes were recreational CANADIAN bashing, by American Conservatives. In fact, I thought it might make a point, as perhaps the linked site's authors did, about the general neocon attitudes towards Canada. But then, I try to actually READ the things I post.
---
Now call it extreme if you like, but I propose we hit it hard, and we hit it fast, with a major, and I mean major, leaflet campaign.--Rimmer, Red Dwarf
You're more fixated on American opinions of Canada than you are on the current state of Canada?

What a crazy country you live in.

    I wish you ill.

I believe they call it "Projection"! Still, I have to thank you. You made me laugh! I needed that!

Crazy or not we aren't going all over the place terrorizing and murdering. If Canada is crazy, give the world more craziness.
