First Nations Ask For Support Against C-6

Posted on Friday, October 24 at 11:17 by Anonymous
It is our view, which is shared by First Nations across Canada and the Assembly of First Nations, that Bill C-6 is unconstitutional and breaches basic principles of natural justice. If it is passed, it is bound to result in a serious increase in claims litigation, with significant costs to the taxpayers of this country. DO NOT DO THIS to your constituents or to our Nations. We call upon Parliament to RESPECT THE INTERESTS OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS -- RESPECT THE RIGHTS AND WISHES OF OUR FIRST NATIONS PLEASE SAY "NO" TO BILL C-6 WHEN THE FINAL VOTE IS CALLED TOMORROW! Respectfully, Edna M. Louis Edna M. Louis, Director ALLIANCE OF TRIBAL NATIONS 220-550 Sixth Street New Westminster, B.C. V3L 3B7 Telephone (604) 517-0855 Fax (604) 517-0860 E-mail atn@telus.net ===== How To Help RED RED ALERT -- C-6 FINAL STEPS FRIDAY The Government pulled a surprise on Thursday afternoon by announcing that it would call up C-6 in the House on FRIDAY early afternoon. Previously, it had announced C-6 would be considered on Monday. Everyone should be calling their Member of Parliament urging them to oppose passage of C-6, and otherwise he/she will be held politically accountable for their vote. This will also be a test for Paul Martin, who could indicate to his Members he does not want C-6 passed. Say No To Bill C-6 When The Final Vote is Called Tomorrow !!!!! Persons who live near Ottawa should consider being in the Gallery of the House of Commons from 12 noon to 1:30 or again on Monday. On Fridays, typically the House opens at 10 a.m. with Government Orders. At 11 a.m., it goes to Statements by Members and Question Period. At 12 noon it does Routine Proceedings, committee reports, etc., and time permitting, then goes back to Government Orders. At 1:30 it goes to Private Members' Business, adjourns at 2:30, reopening at 11 a.m. on Monday. So -- the two times to be in the Gallery are at 10-11 a.m. and 12-1:30 pm. If one must choose, be there just after noon. Find below a list of email address for the MP... Sorry this is not a complete list ...and at this point I don't have the phone numbers, but they can be obtained as well as email addresses at http//www.parl.gc.ca and then click on the list of members. Also contact the AFN National Chief Phil Fontaine and ask that he do active duty in supporting the resolutions of the Chiefs to defeat C-6. We cannot be proud of a country called Canada until we have a system where all people feel that their life chances are improved by an egalitarian style of government. I feel that the very term, \'First Nations\' is not getting the respect it deserves! So many first nations people still feel alienated in their own home! Let`s back first nations people on this.
