Black Ribbons For Bush Protest

Posted on Friday, November 26 at 11:12 by Brian Burchill
Can the following idea be posted on this site as an "Event"? ==================================== ELIZABETH MAY, leader of the SIERRA CLUB MAY'S PROPOSAL RE FORTHCOMING BUSH VISIT TO CANADA: Present Canada as a country in deep mourning -- in mourning for Margaret Hassan, for the innocent dead of Iraq, for the poor, for the environment he plans to butcher...for democracy, human rights and a respect for the dignity of each human being and life form on this sacred orb.. Bush represents Death. We greet him by tying black crepe ribbons to everything in sight -- our front porches, our trees, our lampposts...Christmas decorations. We can all wear black arm bands.... This idea could spread fast by internet. Media could cover it from coast to coast -- what do you think? in solidarity Elizabeth May, November 2004

    Brian,

Perhaps this would be better issued as a "press release" in a format (less questioning; more direct) that could easily be published and distributed via email, etc.

This person is ignorant of the fact that Margaret Hassan was killed by Islamic extremists? - her supporters should take the armbands and wrap them around their heads - making sure they cover their own eyes because only the wilfully blind could ignore the atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein, Iran, Islamic extremists etc. etc...

No, she's aware of the fact noöne in Iraq had any motive for (got any benefit from) her death except the Americans, the British, and their puppet Allawi.
There are killings by the "insurgents"/"extremists", of course. (That shot-up collaboartor-police station, for instance.) But there is absolutely no reason to believe Hassan was killed by Islamic extremists other than Allawi's.

PS: only the wilfully blind couldn't notice Saddam's best friend when he was committing those atrocities - supplying the material, the expertise, and the protection, in violation of laws they passed because of atrocities they attributed to Saddam - was the Reagan/Bush regime.
(I don't ignore Anon in the vague hope someone new might read the replies and get some curiosity.)

How about mandatory black underwear for all women under 55?

Black ribbons sound good. What else can we do? Some kind of mass email blitzkrieg? Send missives to the supreme court judges, all MP's and MLA's, provincial judges, and the media. Demanding to know why a convicted war criminal should be treated with respect rather than arrested or even barred from entering Canada.

Hold it: Why under 55 ??

    I'm 60, so what's with the age deal ??

As long as their hair isn't pure white, I'll take it !!

    Yes, I'm kinky !!

Make sure that what gets on the camera at the protests are peaceful protesters. Of course there could be violent protesters when there is a criminal of Bush's stature when he comes to visit. He is quite the inspiration. But let's see if we can make sure that the majority of protesters gets on the cameras and not only the ones that cause "trouble". Get in to the cameras eye peacefully and show the public how responsible the protesters are. Keep talking to the reporters with intelligent interviews so that they do not have the time to get to write anything else? Could this be a way to make sure that the usually "disrupters" don't get all the air time and then maybe causing empathy towards Bush as hard as it seems that could be.

Wow, some people will twist things any way they have to just to conform to their tidy little world political template. I think you need to get some fresh air, go for a walk, live a little.

    God Bless !

I think both ideas are great.

Oh, oh, oh! a brainstorm. How about you erect a statue of Bush to commemorate his arrival. Make it nice, neat, and accuate. Then as he comes motoring by, topple the statue! Kinda like an artistic statement.
