The Shunned Lake Of Horrors

"And I think, who wouldn't be if something like this would happen to another lake? I think people would be scared and I think that's how it is right now." Dantouze said the band has advised people to stay away from the lake for the time being." http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2006/08/10/beast-dogs.html

    I'll go.

Been a while since I saw a human acting like a monster, and this "mysterious creature" has human written all over it.

No doubt it's some form of frustrated office seeker.

    Welcome. :)

I'd go too. Got a couple a nice bear traps I can bring with me . . indeed, this 'strange creature' does sound like the two-legged variety.

Was thinking Sasquatch, myself. They despise dogs.

Not sure how a human could catch and gut dogs, without the gunshots being heard. Maybe he's using a bow, or is trapping the dogs.

Or maybe it's a rogue bear, or a pack of wolves.

Could be, but why would a big furry monkey gut the dogs? Other winged or 4 legged predators would eat the dog, or just kill it. Only a 2 legged hairless ape would gut it, and do nothing else.

Sasquatch have been observed predating deer, they tear out the liver only, usually by gutting the animal, killing by snapping the neck (sometimes the head comes right off).

so this isolated individual may be trying out dog liver. Normal method of killing dogs is to sling them into a tree or break them to pieces using strength (not pretty).

Why would a human gut a dog? Other than sick and twisted fun, of course.

But I am a firm believer in Occam's Razor (the simplest explanation is usually the correct one) so this will likely turn out to be a more common known animal or a sick human. Perhaps a wolverine?

I sure wish I lived near there, though, I'd love to fire up the SUV and head into the bush on another mysterious animal investigation!

What I DON'T hope they do is call in the Feds and let them handle it by themselves without anyone monitoring what they find.

If it was either a bear or wolves, I'm sure the locals would be able to figure it out based on the tracks and whatever sign happened to be near the bodies.

Normally, yes, but the frequency of attacks and the strange way the bodies are disturbed has obviously freaked them out.

So if this could be bears or wolves, it would have to be qualified with a 'behaving outside of normal predation patterns'. Perhaps a case of rabies?

<i>"it was a common ocurrence, especially in spring, for someone to see a windigo, and then the whole camp would pack up and fled"......."the superstition originated with a fabled tragedy of long ago where supposedly a native family had been starving in a hard cold winter and the man, burdened with worry and unable to supply food, went insane and ate up the family. Ever since then his evil ghost has been wandering, seeking others to devour....the story paints an ugly picture of this demon who had eaten away his lips in a fit of hunger."</i> <p>---<br>"We can have a democracy or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few. What is fascinating to me is that if this had occured 200 years ago, the tribe would have made up a legend about it, and we white men would be scoffing about it today as mere superstitious fantasy.

I believe a lot of native legends have some basis in an event that actually occured.
