Mrs. Dinning said the defence department informed her that mothers in her situation should require no more than four sessions of grief counselling.

New guidelines coming for military funeral expenses
I sort of had the impression that Canada's war dead were buried in a Canadian equivalent to the US Arlington Cemetery. I am plainly wrong in this, and now am wondering why we DON'T have a cemetery where we can honour the people who gave their lives so the fat cats can sit in Ottawa.
“The average funeral in Canada costs about $7,500
Cpl. Matthew Dinning cost more than $12,000,
The military contributed $5,600.”

A funeral of one of 50 or so military personnel who have recently given their life for Canada is hardly “average”. As the Dinnings have indicated they spent aprox $25,000 much of it to accommodate the large number of officials, military and public who wanted to attend and have requested only about 50% of their expenses. In hind sight perhaps they should have declined and turned away all those who wished to demonstrate their support. This is not an easy subject to discuss but $5,600 seems but a pittance that hardly pays for the casket in some funeral homes!

$5,600 seems but a pittance
Everytime Harper sneezes, it costs us about that much........
Something as shameful as this is important enough to bring down this government. This is a people issue, one that counts in the minds of ordinary Canadians. It isn't the kind of issues our politicos would consider "important", preferring as they do, to yak on about fiscal imbalances, and points of law -- and anything they cannot be pinned down on. But this is a "rubber-hits-the-road" sort of issue.

Forking over $12,000 x 50 deaths = $600,000?

The Defence Minister ought to resign out of sheer embarassment!
---
"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
Makes perfect sense. They'd much rather spend the money indoctrinating the next bag of meat in line.

Why anyone still has any level of respect for the <strike>Canadian Armed Forces</strike> US Axillary Service is beyond me.
