Currently, though, as seen through the rose lenses of liberals all over the world, Canada is flying high. Notions of a country running on legal marijuana and free-flowing alcohol have fuelled an international image that is undeniably liberal. Canada is also progressing towards the legalization of gay marriage, placing it in the same league as countries such as Belgium and Denmark. Especially in the eyes of many college students, Canada, as a country, is close to ideal. It is no surprise, then, that Canada’s former Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, has won accolades from progressives across the globe. Within Canada itself, however, liberalism is facing severe challenges, mainly due to the past mistakes of Mr. Chretien himself. Pay attention to Canadian politics: what Canada represents may be about to change.

The country described in this article is not Canada. I wish it were, but it's not. For one thing they got their facts wrong; unfortunately Canada is far from legalizing marijuana. The government is only trying to decrminalise marijuana. I guess they just decided to leave that fact out.
My one question after reading this article was who was it written for Americans or Canadians?
Why is it that it's always left-wing Americans who are constantly telling us what to do? As we know, it's hard to take Republican attitudes and comments directed towards Canada and Canadians seriously as they're usually devoid of any facts. But there is always something serious, almost threatening or fearful in the Democrats tone towards us? Why is that? They make it always sound as if our "enlightened utopia" is about to evaporate right in front of our eyes, when in fact Canada is just like any other country; a nation with as many positive traits as negative attributes.
Or was this article written for American Liberals in the hopes that it may inspire them and their cause south of the border? Canada is such a progressive paradise and it's all because of Liberalism, so let's get busy in America and get Liberalism back on track! Of course this article avoids the clear differences that exist between Canadian Liberals and American Liberals. They probably don't want to mention to their readers that Liberalism in Canada is as much an obstacle to Canadian nationalism as Conservatism is. At least in their current form(s)
Not only do they fail to mention the Bloc or the NDP, but they fail to mention the many serious issues and problems facing our country; a failing health care system, an under funded military, an over taxed population, poorly envision foreign policy, an ever increasing democratic deficit, and an over dependancy on free markets south of the border. Not to mention the problems with Quebec separatism. No Canadian nationalist could take this article seriously.
