The Prosecution Of George W. Bush For Torture:

Posted on Tuesday, August 23 at 11:41 by whelan costen
Many individuals and organizations around the world allege that George Bush has used his position as President of the United States and Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces to carry out torture that has included among its victims at least one Canadian (a minor) and many, perhaps thousands, of other non-Americans. These allegations and the evidence supporting them are widely available. LAW wants to present this evidence in court. The Attorney General says that George Bush, as the President of the United States and a sitting head of state, is immune from prosecution. LAW insists that diplomatic immunity is irrelevant to this case of torture. Canadian jurisdiction to prosecute Mr. Bush was triggered when he came to Canada on November 30, 2004 and when a Canadian citizen became the victim of torture under Mr. Bush command. The law is very clear on torture and LAW simply wants the law to be applied. Under international and domestic law, Canadians have a responsibility to prevent torture and to prosecute those who commit torture. LAW wants the hearing to be public so that Canadians can see justice being done. Information note on the crime of torture: Torture is a unique international crime. Torture can only be committed by or through state officials. It is a crime universally condemned by Canada and other nations as one of the most egregious violations of both international human right law and international humanitarian law. Torture is a war crime and a crime against humanity. The prohibition against torture is absolute – torture cannot be justified by any circumstances. No nation holds torture to be legal. The right to freedom from torture is universal and non-derogable—it cannot be displaced even temporarily. Criminal law prohibits the torture of anyone. International law says Canada owes a duty to the whole world to prosecute Mr. Bush for torture. Canada has a duty to act effectively to prevent further torture of the people in Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo Bay and to deter other states from using torture. It will be interesting to see if the press covers this at all. Even to say, they were banned from the courtroom.

Good luck getting this past attorney general Irwin Cotler. This rabid zionist whose loyalties are more with Israel than with Canada has already swung the Canadian government to a position more favourable to Israel.

He will doubtless take a dim view of attempts to smear Israel's greatest benefactor, George Bush.

I think it is important that those in the u.S will see that the world is taking a different view, and this isn't the first time the people have brought something to light that the press wouldn't or couldn't . It will be interesting to watch.

What I don't understand, is how Paul Martin can illegally participate in a coup detat in Haiti, ousting Its legal, democratically elected president Aristide. Is that not a crime under international criminal law? Why haven't Bush, Martin and Chirac been charged and brought before the ICC? (OK, I know the US snubbed the ICC and doesn't recognize international law, but what about Martin & Chirac?)

The ridiculous drivel dreamed up by the Left. The Left tries to bring substance to these silly allegations by simply repeating them, like a mantra, but that doesn't bring them one shred closer to being real.

Canadian Courts should not waste a minute on trash-talking Leftists and the clowns had better be paying Court costs.

The US Navy should probably lob a few cruise missiles at the courthouse and make quick work of these leftists.

Can't wait to see that on Fox News Channel :)

I agree anon. There was something very wrong with what happpened in Haiti and one day I hope Martin's government will have to answer for that.

Our own RCMP had better think twice about handing over Canadians to foreign countries that torture for "evidence". Watching the Arar inquiry, a CID operative named Flewelling and an RCMP office named Cabana both said that thhe see nothing wrong with interrogating Canadians in a foreign country to further an investigation. "Evidence" collected this way is not submissible in a court of law. I guess the court of law is not worth pursuing in today's climate of insaninty. Just torture people to hear what you want to hear, nod your head and say "I thought so".

Why use an illegal means for getting bad information? What exactly is the point here? Why not pursue whatever it is you belive to be true in the first place? Why hurt people for nothing? Is this the way to turn propaganda into the truth? SICK!

If I thought Paul Martin would object I'd say watch yourselves anon, our offices are also embedded in your military. If they ever decided to protect Canada they could just put a big stick in that almighty wheel.

    1) Don't need NORAD to program a Tomahawk on a Sub. They'll never know. Even if they did, the Canadian Military would probably approve taking out the leftists.

    2) Elementary school ... Those leftist Canucks should have thought of that before doing stupid things.

I've had first hand experience with official fascism, nazism, communism, capitalism , have been sentenced to death by the nazis, to the gulags by the communists, managed to esape both, have been reading history for over 60 years, but I wish somebody could give me a clear definition of what the hell are the "right" and the "left" in politics ?

As far I'm concerned, people who use silly expressions like "righties" and "lefties" have no idea of what they're talking and are trying to cover up their ignorance with propagandistic buzzwords. Ed Deak, Big Lake, BC.

US/Canada relations will improve when Canadians learn to be ashamed of their short-man complex.

Until such time, I guess you'll have keep looking for the right step-stool, eh? :)

No, it is far simpler than that - once Bush leaves office.

    Thank you Ed,

Everytime I hear those definitions my skin crawls. There is something so divisive and simplistic and nah nah nah nah nah nah about it that I'm glad you have the life experience to put it in its place better than I can.
