An interesting, if not disturbing story from the CATO institute. Read the 12th paragraph carefully. Who is running our country anyway? Cato Institute

This person has the impression mulroney retired.

What a joke, he quit before he got booted halfway across the country.

He also seems to forget, or never paid any attention to the fact that the PC's were reduced to a rump of the party, from a majority down to two members.

    Some legacy for bullroney !!

12th paragraph says he 'encouraged' Mulroney to try tax cuts etc. Far different than ordering the PM to do something. Free trade & the GST were tough but necessary political work for the Canadian government, that's why they lost the PC's the election, but even the Liberals knew it was work that had to be done for the Canadian economy because their first lies in the campaign at that time was that they would tear up the agreement and scrap the GST. Reagan's policies lifted an economic malaise that had gripped the West, Canada was lucky to have Mulroney, he got us on board although he probably knew it would cost him his government.

Ya, Mulroney was a regular martyr for Canada. A martyr and a manly hero that set Kim Campbell up to take his suicide bomb. I was hoping Vive would be a safe haven from the Regan mornathon. Not to be I see.

Let us not forget that Reagan's Cross Border Legacy includes the inception of star wars. Or at least he tried to sell the idea.
His Legacy reached accross other borders with more deadly effect. It included an illegal war to bring down the democratically elected government of Nicaragua and adventures in Granada, Guatemala, and El Salvadore. It helped lay the groundwork for the present state of belligerant American imperialism. It was appalling.

Reagan was nothing more than an imperialist corporate fascist. Mulroney was his little suck-up who betrayed Canada and lined his own pockets while he sold us out. The GST was put in place to make up for the tax cuts given to the wealthy and the corporations. Then Mulroney helped to create the 'free trade' agreement, giving the USA all of our resources for next to nothing, as well as allowing US corporations to buy up Canadian companies and merely shut down the competition. Reagan ruined the economic security of millions of Americans as well. His economic philosophy being that if you 'fed more and more oats to the big, strong horse, enough will pass through the horse onto the road for the birds.' People who like politicians like this are themselves insecure, because they delight in seeing other people get hurt and lose. People generally love it when others lose. Life is a lottery, and so-called success in life comes from the right conditions coming together for one to self-actualize in this manner. But 'Reaganomics' ensures that wealth creation and retention stay within the confines of nepotism, at the expense of the majority!

Anon of the 12th paragraph, look at history.

Even Reagan's own vice-president called his economics "voodoo economics", and the plain fact is that Reagan will be remembered as a great president, which he was not.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but he was no saviour of the US. Look at his deficits, among other things.

Don't get all caught up in the moment of a funeral, use your head.

I strongly believe that the American Manifest Destiny is alive and well. We can all agree that Brian Mulroney sold out the Canadian soul by signing the flawed NAFTA agreement. This was akin to the neighbor boys letting you play with them because you have the baseball. So now that they have what they want, they can stick you out in left field. But, hey, you're still an important team player, right?
I read the text of the complaint that the Americans had over softwood lumber. It's not about us doing things unfairly, its about not doing things THEIR WAY. Basically, they want us to move away from Crown land with stumpage fees, to a freemarket, privately held landowner system. Do we have to? Their alterior motives are so obvious it reaks. Just as they are doing with all our other resources, they want access to it to be able to own it. The Chapter 11 clause of the NAFTA agreement is nonsense.
Canadians, we are losing a battle to the Americans that we don't even realize we're fighting. Can UPS bring a lawsuit of $160 million against Canada Post? Sure they can, as Canada Post is government run, therefore unfair under the guidelines of NAFTA. We need to have politicians and business owners in Canada stalwart against the encroachers. They want our resources to feed their increasing demands, but lets not just let them come and own it. What would be left of Canada save the document of the Constitution. Tom d'Aquino.... try being a Canadian. Paul Cellucci... don't be a bully. Americans that post in this group... don't do it anonymously. If you're going to fight, let us know who you are.

Let us not forget Reagan's support for the evil regime in South Africa. I've heard it said that this support cost lives by prolonging the struggle against Aparthied.
The reason he supported the evil ones was to protect U.S. investments. Which means that his corporate puppet masters valued money above human rights. No surprise there. But we should ask ourselves how much of their filthy lucre we want invested in Canada.
