Those figures are highly dubious representations of members? views of the merger. MacKay, who deceived David Orchard in order to win the leadership of the PC party, has now deceived the public with statistics.
The facts are that 57 per cent of the Alliance membership voted in support of the merger (96 per cent of the 59. per cent of the Alliance members who voted).
The greatest deception has been with the PC party statistics. There are no statistics to indicate the level of support by the 60,000 PC members. The party's procedure did not ensure that supporting or non-supporting delegates were elected in proportion to members' support or non-support.
Further, the party steadfastly refused to permit a voting procedure that would enable members' support to be identified. On Dec. 6, fewer than 3,000 delegates voted on the merger issue, of which 90.4 per cent voted in support of the merger.
The only valid PC-member-support statistic that MacKay has to rely on was that a mere 3.7 per cent of the PC membership voted in support of the merger.
