I saw her speech this a.m.. Very deadpan reading of teleprompter. Afterwards there was discussion by other Alliance MPs saying she has all this business experience which will come in very handy for being Prime Minister. She was 34 yrs. old when she became the CEO and she\'s now 37! She really didn\'t give that job enough time to see how successful she was in it.
I\'m all for women in government and would like to see a lot more get involved directly. Kathleen Petty from Newsworld had a phone in about \"What do you think of women in politics\". More than one man phoned in and said we need more compassionate and empathetic people in government and they would like to see more women get involved. However from where I sit, (as a woman) most of the compassionate and empathetic women are not big business tycoons. Many of those women have taken on very masculine rolls to fit in.
And yet, how many men, or women for that matter, are willing to vote for a mother? A housewife? A nurse? A nun? Until we are willing to vote for the nurturing kind we will not likely have a very compassionate government. Most compassionate people are sensitive and don\'t thrive on being beat up daily by their opposition or the media.

Yes I too am a woman, and believe that being a woman in politics is probably a very difficult role; however being a mother doesn\'t mean you are automatically compassionate! Any more than those men who are fathers, automatically change diapers. To generalize is to be a fool, especially in politics. There are many women who have the intelligence, the intestinal fortitude and compassion to be Prime Minister, however I don\'t think that the general public can see that role, yet!We need women who can stand on their own and not be propped up by men as a token, \'woman\' in their party. Men and women need to give all people respect for taking on these roles, if they are willing.

Too many times,I have seen women in these roles that are obviously \'eye candy\' or symbolic rather than seen as a force to be reckoned with, a human being that is capable of digesting information and making a wise decision. Unfortunately in the last 10-15 yrs I haven\'t seen any men with those qualities either. Hopefully in the next 5-10 yrs we will see women who are whole selfconfident human beings, willing to take on the role and make people pay attention to the contents of the being, rather than just the package! I think we can all do our part, by encouraging those women who have the qualities we want in our leaders and backing them up, whether they happen to be a beauty or not.
I do think this one \'Stronach\' is being encouraged for all the wrong reasons, I for one am not interested in another puppet. Remember Kim Campbell?

Be careful if you visit her website. belinda.ca, not belinda.com. Hehehe. Who knew?<p> I don't think she right for the job, not because she's a woman, not because she's rich; but because there's no meat in the stew. She has no track record, and from the looks of things, will only be a puppet.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />"The greatest price of not participating in politics is being governed by your inferiors." This ploy to connect her to the common Canadian reeks as bad as Harpers Kraft Dinner comment last week.

I heard this person say that she had gone to public school. I remember growing up poor in centretown Ottawa and attending the snootiest high school at the time there. I remember the rich kids being chauffered to and from the school. They never ate with us, played sports with us or attended many of the classes I did. And the few I do remember in my home room certainly didn\'t talk to us. I didn\'t even know I was poor until I was looked through by one of them when I dared to talk to him. Sour grapes you might say...ok...but they are vivid memories of class separation.
So Ms. Stronach....what else have you got that brings you closer to the great unwashed like myself? I\'m waiting.

I think it\'s time I read the belinda.com (OOOPS !!) .ca page, just out of curiosity.

I know it will show in the hits, but if they have a contact me link, I may just have a comment or two.

    I\'m not shy.

I completely agree that it\'s a mistake to generalize about stereotypical \"womanly\" qualities ie women are more compassionate, more nurturing, kinder, gentler etc. while \"male\" qualities are to be aggressive etc. Let\'s look at individual people and their strengths and weaknesses instead.

Certainly I\'d love to see more women in politics, but there\'s no need to generalize about them in order to get them there. We need more women in politics because that\'s the only way to truly represent the actual make-up of our population.

A millionaire CEO is a millionaire CEO. Not someone who can represent the interests of ordinary Canadians, or end the prioritizing of policy that benefits the business elite in Canada.

Agreed! For effective government we need men, women, blacks, whites, east asian, south asian, martian, teachers, lawyers(albeit less of them), taxi drivers, factory workers, welders, homemakers, doctors, business types, bus driver, etc. etc. (I think you get the point.) But i also agree with the point that many women who climb whatever ladder become just like the men at the top- Greedy, self-centred, and out of touch with the real world!
