The Police State Keeps Us Safe.

North Vancouver resident Marget Lieder said that in the early evening of Oct. 25 she was having wine with her partner and a guest when she misdialed the emergency number, meaning to call 411 instead. After promptly hanging up, the police contacted her, saying two officers were dispatched and warned her her home would be searched to confirm she wasn't in danger. "I was sitting on the couch. They stuck a Taser in my face, threatening me with 50,000 volts," said Pierce, a well-known lawyer. "They threw me on the floor, twisted my left arm. A police officer stuck his knee into my ribs and jumped on me." Later he found out that his two ribs were cracked, recalled Pierce. The couple said the officers began taping them right away even though their rights weren't read until they were in the car. Once in jail, Pierce remembered he was interrogated for over an hour. Is there a way to disable 911? The phone companies should offer this as a service after reading this story.

It may be that the police over-reacted in this case, however I'm reminded of that "nice" Homolka couple in Ontario who abducted children, and raped and murdered them in their own home all the while looking to be perfectly normal.

What if someone was locked up in that home that night and had dialed 911 intentionally?

Had a similar event. Police at the door. Took time to quiet the dog and put her in the garage. Answered the door to 2 cops. Let them in the door, it was raining out. Without even a discussion, or explanation as to why they were there, said wanted to search the house. Wife and I said no. Well I said no and she said no bloody way! They said they had a complaint and would search anyway and why did it take so long to answer the door?(hands on holsters).

She was livid. They searched anyway. Then the discussion. It seems that a neighbour had heard a "muffled cry" that seemed to be coming from our house.

We foster sick and injured cats for the humane society. Sometimes the cats have something to say (muffled cries perhaps).

We complained and got nowhere. The local detachment had recently received serious criticism for not properly investigating domestic abuse.

Now we know what its like to have a home invasion. Very unpleasant.

I think a private talk with each resident would have been enough and more effective. Searching, accomplished nothing regarding investigating potential domestic abuse. Perhaps it was all about using the "probable cause" to check for grow ops or just plain harrass and lord it over on us.

Just how much of this is going on these days?
