US Forces Storm Iranian Consulate In Iraq

Posted on Friday, January 12 at 15:48 by Diogenes
The raid comes amid high Iran-US tension. The US accuses Iran of helping to fuel violence in Iraq and seeking nuclear arms. Iran denies both charges. Tehran counters that US military involvement in the Middle East endangers the whole region. A local TV station said Kurdish security forces had taken over the building after the Americans had left. Irbil lies in Iraq's Kurdish-controlled north, about 350km (220 miles) from the capital Baghdad. Reports say the Iranian consulate there was set up last year under an agreement with the Kurdish regional government to facilitate cross-border visits. Pressure Iranian media said the country's embassy in Baghdad had sent a letter of protest about the raid to the Iraqi foreign ministry. http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/hi/middle_east/6251167.stm http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/mpapps/pagetools/print/news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6251167.stm http://www.rense.com/general75/strom.htm

Obviously the Americans are not giving Iraq their own destiny. It was Iraq and the Kurds who invited Iran to have an embassy in their country. The US is getting revenge when Iranians atacted the US embassy in their country, so many years ago. This was when our Embassador became a hero to the Yanks. He was able to evacuate the US embassy staff from Iran. It is also the reason Iran has a low regard for Canada.

I think Iran could care less about us. We are not "players" in any sense of the word, that could have "consequences". If Canada dropped off the face of the Earth today (wait a minute! Maybe he have....!) It would only affect Iran in that the latter's oil would become that much more vital to US interests, if Canadian oil were no longer available.

Wasn't it Iran & Cuba who vindicated Canada for global warming? Granted, we are a minor player but we side with the USA on occasion. Afghanistan is not a minor role and eases the burdon on the US, allowing them elbow room to devastate other countries.

Canada is 6th largest arms exporter in the world. 'Nuff said........?
But if we didn't "step up to the plate" here, I am sure the other "Brothers in Arms" could quite nicely cover the ensuing vacuum.

I didn't know that. I can assume the Americans are our biggest customer but who else? Who are the top four manufactures (following the USA)? It's sickening but interesting in a morbid sence.
