Health Care Costs And The Job Flight To Canada

Posted on Wednesday, April 20 at 10:30 by Spud
[Editor's note: General Motors is the largest health care provider in the US. They actually have more employees on the health care side of the company than on the vehicle manufacturing side, and the health care side is larger and more profitable than the vehicle manufacturing side. Daimler/Chrysler is a German-French(via EADS/Airbus stake) owned international corporation. It produces GEM, Maybach, Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Freightliner, Mitsubishi Fuso, Setra, Western Star, Sterling Trucks, and engine brands MTU Friedrichshafen, and get this...lol..."Detroit Diesel". They manufacture in the U.S. as well as vitually most everywhere else imaginable.
    EADS is the acronym for the "European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company".

    About the article now...

    Naturally the big business groups want out of their obligation to provide health care coverage for their employee,s and put the expense more squarely upon the shoulders of the ordinary taxpaying citizen who gives the government it's money to pay for the programs. How can you be against "big business" when you are for helping them put their obligations off onto US to boost their own profit margins?

    Interestingly enough, it is the "evil ones"....the neocanaziwhatchamacallits...our much hated conservatives...that try to make big business pay it's fair share. Big business doesn't want to. In case anyone is still confused, "liberal" does not always mean for the little guy, and "conservative" does not always mean for the corporate elite. Sometimes it is exactly the opposite. Everybody has their own interests in the way things go. Altruism is extinct. Some are just better liars than others. In fact the biggest corporations own, control, and operate Canada's Liberal Party. The biggest corporations would much rather WE paid for our inferior health care with OUR tax dollars (just like an insurance premium but under a different name) than for them to pay for it themselves out of their own pockets thereby reducing their profits. Do you think the Power Corporation of Canada would rather pay for our healthcare, or have us pay for our own healthcare through our taxes as we do now. Of course. There are no "free" rides. I'm sorry if anyone was assuming there was.

    Further, the term "Medicare" is something we borrowed from the United States, along with the health care program of theirs we modeled ours upon by the same name. We simply extended our system to include all ages while theirs was for the elderly age 65 and older generally with some others included who qualified based upon certain conditions.

    In short "American" corporations would LOVE to have it's government force the health care costs they currently bear upon the population as we have done. I agree. Your article was very clearly in support of that concept, Spud. Good one.

    Shouldn't the US corporations be taking our government to court over this? Our health system is an unfair subsidy to Canadian buisness, so it's an illegal interference in free trade! They shouldn't want our government to expand care, we should shut it down!

    "Dailmer Chrysler" produces *no* vehicles in the US. There are no vehicle plants in the US, as evidenced by their websites:<br />

    For my friend... this list of maufacturing facilites I cut and pasted right off DamilerChrysler's site(well after traipsing around a bit within it)...try this if it works for you...I got there from the DaimlerChrysler homepage, then to "Chrysler Group" and then...blah, blah, blah...,it was a bit tedious I have to admit...undoubtedly as you are much better than 'puter stuff(being serious - I really do suck at this crap no comments please ;)) on this web page you can click on any of the plants mentioned and get specific information on each of the referenced facilites. Good Luck. I just hate as much as you do to be told I'm wrong when I'm right...the link is...<br />

    alright...maybe the link won't work, but you can get to it from here <a href="http://www.careers.chrysler-group.com/">http://www.careers.chrysler-group.com/</a> then click on the "Locations" link going down the left sidebar, then you'll get this : <br />
    <br />
    LOCATIONS<br />
    <br />
    "Click here for information on Chrysler Group North America Locations"<br />
    <br />
    Then you click on the underlined "click Here" part of the sentence and you get a pop up javascript box with all the North American locations with each one being "clickable"(?) for more specific information on each one.<br />
    <br />
    You'll see what I mean....christ..I really do suck at this stuff...sorry.<br />

    I see what you mean. But, go to any of those links and look under 'products'. Those locations in the US assemble engines, rear ends, transmissions etc., but none of them assemble *cars. All those parts are shipped to Canada or Mexico to be assembled into cars.

    After all that work, I only found the Tuscaloosa County, Alabama plant that assembles 3 models of Mercedes, and the
    Warren Truck Assembly Plant that assembles the Dodge Ram trucks.

    The Magnum station wagon, 300c, Pacifica and minivans are built in Canada, and things like the Siebring, Neon are built in Mexico.

    ...so as for "deep integration"...let's see...hmmm...France/Germany has then "deeply integrated" ALL of North America if the above information is correct (and there is no reason for it not to be)...Canada, the U.S., and Mexico...all victims of French/German "deep integration"! With everybody "deeply integrating" each other these days it's no wonder the world's population is soaring ;)...but then that's a different story, isn't it?

    SHEESH! Don`t give them any ideas, NSay! No, I get your point. According to NAFTA, this is a subsidy. Just like the Chinese government buying up some of our oil sands! Meanwhile, everyone had a heart attack when the Canadian government tried to wrestle more control over our own resources. How do people think? But yeah, the real reason to expand public health care is to put PEOPLE before profits!
