Marriage Made In ...Alliance & PC

Alliance Leader Stephen Harper called the agreement historic.

The notoriously stoic Harper admitted that he was so excited about the merger that sleep eluded him overnight. "It's like Christmastime," he said at a joint news conference.

The deal, which must be ratified by the respective party memberships by Dec. 12, represents a remarkable breakthrough following weeks of public acrimony during which negotiations appeared to be at a standstill over what were described as "philosophical differences."

The potential leadership makes me laugh. Well first of all, Mulroney was the puppetmaster for the PCs which was a stupid move for them. I wonder why he has the record for lowest approval rating in a western democracy (8%)? & why would they want him to be involved? Anyway, they\'re really out of it if they think they can get anywhere with Mike Harris after what he did in Ontario; Stockwell Day is being taken seriously also. There\'s also billionaire Belinda Stronach, president of auto-parts corporation Magna International & 2nd-most-powerful businesswoman on the planet according to Forbes 500 or somebody. I bet she\'d be just like Thatcher. The person they should elect leader if they just want to win an election is Ken Dryden though. This is a hockey country so Dryden would be a perfect choice because of his image. He could say anything & the Cs would get in just because Dryden was one of the greatest goalies ever. It\'s kind of appropriate that the Habs are American-owned, Dryden would be too. hehe

Oh yeah, is Stronach even Canadian? Where is the capital city of Magna Intl? I saw a pic of her in the Victoria TC today, she looked like an Angel of Death or something.

Yeah, I agree with you, the potential candidates for leader of this yet another corporate fascist party leave too much to be desired! Sure seems like Mulroney(traitor extrordinaire) is still calling the shots. Stronach, well, all she did was inherit a huge corporation from daddy! This goes on all the time, where much of the wealth is actually old money adhering to the age old tradition of exploitation! Harris and Day are dangerous men, there`s no question. Privatization of essential services and cherished programs would happen so fast that people wouldn`t know what hit them! But sadly, though, it seems that people have either short memories or dismal political literacy, because in the Ontario provincial election, I saw many people, believe it or not, still vote PC after all we`ve been through! I live in a town where our hospital, even though it was built by the PEOPLE in the 50`s, was threatened with closure by the Harris-Eves tories. Guess what? Not only did I see a shocking amount of blue campaign lawn signs around my riding, but tory Tim Hudak got re-elected! I can`t understand why people are so afraid of left of centre progressive, egalitarian governance!

I think people, generally speaking are afraid of change, they\'ll witch(complain) about everything but ask them to do something about it, well now it\'s not that bad. I live in a small, very small hamlet, people have been paying taxes and getting nothing for years. As soon as someone suggests we should demand something for our taxes, no no don\'t say anything or they\'ll raise the taxes! Go figure, complaining seems to be safe, voting for the same is safe, the devil you know is safe and Canadians like nothing better than safe. So frustrating and so sad. Same thing happened in the last Alberta election, everybody was complaining about the PC\'s then what do you know they\'re back in with a majority!

Or how Toronto filmmaker Robert Lantos descrobed Izzy Asper in a 1998 speech, provoking a lawsuit: \"Asper is one of the forces of darknesss, surpassed in his greed only in his hypocrisy.\"

I just loved how Belinda told the Globe & Mail that \"She considered herself fotunate,\" and \"She felt she had to do something to help Canada and improve democracy.\" (unite the right!!)

They do, just look at how many people want to fight privatization like in BC & Ontario. Just don\'t tell them that it\'s centre/left.
