Top Medical Journal Blasts "Designer Vagina" Craze

Posted on Sunday, May 27 at 14:51 by Diogenes
Not only is there a disturbing lack of data about the phenomenon, there has been negligible assessment about surgical after-effects -- and almost zero reflexion as to whether a labial "problem" exists in the first place, the BMJ says angrily. In 2004-5, 800 "labial reductions" were conducted by Britain's state-run National Health Service (NHS), more than a doubling of the figure of six years earlier. Other operations were carried out by the private sector, although the full figures are unknown. The authors of the article, London gynaecologist Sarah Creighton and clinical psychologist Lih Mei Liao, conducted their own small-scale probe into why women sought this surgery. "Our patients sometimes cited restrictions on lifestyle as reasons for their decision," they say. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=070524230339.aha5xr5x&show_article=1&catnum=-1 exploiting (some) women's insecurities, is this the extent of social consciousness today?

thank you for the inclusion of this article
    I offered it with comment
and that comment was along the lines of. and I must paraphrase myself,
' is the the what passes as social concern for (some) women and men?'
We wonder how to reach the ]voters of our country is a serious and thoughtful manner and the we find what occupies the minds of some are the 'hot new trends'
at one time this was considered by some as mutilation and now its a *trend*?
    Sheesh!

Well this is a deep subject! There has been an ongoing trend for many
    decades to keep one gender down, but it doesn't happen at the same time;
one gender at a time. We have been pitted against each other for decades. At
the same time we are consistently told we are inferior. When the nation is
going down the tube and we can do little about it, we can make other
changes in our lives so that we feel we are doing something. Our confidence
is meant to be in the toilet, so that we cannot rise up and walk out and face
the world demanding fairness, tranparency in government, freedom etc.

Who can do that? Not the little person sitting at home watching t.v.,
commercial after commercial tells you, you are too fat, too skinny, have
unwanted hair somewhere and not enough somewhere else, your teeth are
not white enough and so on. So the message is clear, we are not good
enough to do anything of importance. Even if you buy the one product that is
suppose to give you that confidence, you look in the mirror and once again
you have something else wrong. Look at politicians today and how we vote.

Do we vote for the most intelligent, most compassionate, most knowlegable,
well ? When they are packaging our politicians, who do they look for? I am not
surprised by this trend. We have been inundated with one message repeated
over and over again, and that is that we are an unhappy lot and need 'them'
and their products to make us as happy as the next guy. It is a diversion.

We are not dissatisfied with the fact that our country is being taken from us,
or that laws are being made to take away our freedom, pollution is on the rise
and nobody really cares anymore; or that we don't know how we will be able
to afford to get to work next week, or put food on the table, nope those are
not the issues people. The reason you are unhappy and feeling depressed is
because you don't have our newest product. Once you get yourself back in
the sack you'll feel much better! If they can keep us preoccupied with all their
concepts about what we should look like, feel like and act like, they won't
have to worry about us standing up for what is really important!

If life revolved around our sexual experiences then all their products would fit
with the program, however most of us realize that is only a small part of
reality. I understand that you can actual live without sex, but you can't live
without clean water to drink, or earth to grow healthy food, we will die with or
without the new and improved genitalia! It's sad really very sad!
