Now let me ask the reader: how stupid does CanWest think we are? Sure, it's true that the police from the first 24 hours after the raid, tried to reassure the public by saying that no elected politicians were under investigation.
But obviously -- and quite properly -- there had to be later investigations which included the Ministers of Finance, the Ministers of Transportation, possibly the Premier, and others. The police even have wire taps on former Cabinet Ministers. The public should worry if these key players hadn't been checked out.
So what in blue blazes does this CanWest statement mean: The police have repeatedly said no politicians were ever suspected of wrongdoing? Not ever?
Is CanWest saying that the Cabinet was in Tahiti or Katmandu throughout the entire sale of B.C. Rail and knew nothing -- absolutely nothing -- about how it got sold?
Is CanWest messing with our heads?
If so, what's next? Tomorrow, the verdict?

Good government is not a party government
government was ever under suspicion. We're all pleased.
Reminds me of the Editor-in-Chief of CanWest's Victoria daily
newspaper telling me last September that they had sent a reporter to a
pre-trial hearing for Basi, Virk & Basi but that "nothing happened" so
they didn't write a story. Then she added: "When there is news, we plan
to report it." Well, there was BIG news today.
But, know what? Today -- on the start of Her Majesty The Queen vs Basi,
Virk, Basi (the B.C. Rail Trial), there's NOT A WORD about it in that
CanWest newspaper.
If you believe (as I do) that the media is an arm of government keeping
the population informed, it's important that the media should do a
decent job of reporting. In court today, however, we learned that Dave
Basi, while serving as the top aide in Ministry of Finance, was given a
contract with the B.C. Liberals (i.e., old Socred, Reform, Alliance,
Conservative, Liberal Party members) for media relations, i.e., shaping
the news for political purposes.
So I don't know why you wouldn't believe the nice man, Wayne.
I must say it is well done and yes a little left leaning, but it leaves room for the person listening with more information to make a better judgement.

I wish we had such a media format in Nova Scotia. Your right I do not trust the little man.
The RCMP also seem to be on trial for various actions, conflicts, coverups.
In may ways I'm surprised about the general BCTV coverage of some very damning claims, stories and evidence against the Campbell government, with NDP MLAs interviewed almost daily
Ed Deak. .
Thanks for the news tips, Wayne, Ed. I'll try to keep up with them. Most
of my time is taken up tracking the B.C. Rail story as it may (or may not)
appear in the daily newspapers online ... it's a little more difficult with
the radio and TV.
Bill Tieleman has been generous with his findings and columns. Maybe if
you see something which would add new information to the B.C. Rail
Trial, you could copy it to The Legislature Raids as a comment?
It's going to be a challenge even for citizens to get through this trial to a
good ending. Most important, I think, is for citizens to make their
interest known to the court (by attending the sessions), to the news
media (by letters or phone calls). People often think it makes no
difference -- but it does.
.
Until such time as this is done the Bar will continue as it always has!
We in democracies are in flagrant disregard of our duties of citizens!
This trial, and all trials concerning how we are governed must be juried! Either in the courts or through EXTRA LEGAL means, perhaps BOTH.
There is less chance of tampering with the law when there is a civic body whose express purpose is to monitor the courts.
In fact what is required in any democracy are civic watch dog groups to monitor ALL branches of government
From tax collection to dog catcher
Perhaps my suggestion is ahead of it’s time, but, until we take the kind of responsibilities I have suggest as a crucial part of democracy we will continue to have what we have always gotten!
Incase the one on this thread who has difficulties through selective understanding fails to “get” it what I am talking about is pro-action rather than re-action.
To illustrate: perhaps she is familiar with the phrase locking the barn door AFTER the horse is stolen?
Well right now all across Cana duh most of the horses have not only been stolen they have been re-branded and accepted as legitimate!!
Do any reading reactionary drivel honestly believe that after the fact action is what is required to have a civil society?
When governments “let us down” it is a sure sign we have reneged on “our” duties.
After the fact warm fuzzies won’t get the job done and at best end up being circle jerks, for jerks.

What a great idea , a watch dog citizens committee to keep track of the Barristers. Maybe Connie Fogal or any other lawyer on the site could / would help set it up.
Make it non political, tracking and logging information on lawyers and the media. Sounds good.
