Bush Says States Not Allowed To Import Canadian Medicine
Posted on Tuesday, December 23 at 12:15 by sthompson
...The Bush administration says imported drugs could be tainted, old or fake. Drug companies that charge higher prices in the USA fear imports could lead to price controls in this country...
Of course, this is a load of bunk! Pfizer`s profits take precedence over the well being of people! Boy, I wonder if Bush doesn`t see that people can see through this one!
That \"tainted, old or fake\" line sounds like fear-mongering to me. Hello, we do have our own system to check out the medicine up here.
It\'s all about profit of course. They\'ll never talk about or address the root differences in the medical systems of the two countries that make Canadian drugs so much cheaper in the first place. In this case Bush has decided to use the stick rather than the carrot, and threaten people with legal action instead of looking at how they might make some changes to the US system to lower their own drug costs.
It's the same line with different punctuation. "We have to restrict your freedoms because there may be terrorists out there" and "You can't buy drugs from overseas places such as Canada because their standards are lower or may be tainted". It doesn't matter that it's the same manufacturer. . .

I hope the Americans restore my faith in their humanity and see through such obvious rhetoric.

I don\'t think it has anything to do with safety, they\'re doing it just to screw over Canada 1 more time. & if that\'s true, it\'s US (nontariff) protectionism & just another reason to kill the FTA/NAFTA. As Mel Clark wrote, we should have scrapped the FTA/NAFTA every time they invoked their unilateral rights. I always thought that Canadian = American under the agreements? Is what they\'re doing even in the spirit of \"free trade\"?

Yes this was discussed on CNN and the American interviewed suggested the best way to fix it was to raise prices in Canada and that would solve the problem. Since the reason they\'re importing is to avoid the price of medicine in their own Country...so if people can\'t afford it at home, let\'s make sure they can\'t get it anywhere...the sick get sicker, the poor get poorer and the companies thrive!
