Northern Premiers Say More Military Needed To Protect Sovereignty

Posted on Wednesday, April 20 at 12:16 by sthompson
Nunavut premier Okalik says, up until now, the Canadian government has relied on Canadian Rangers and people in small northern communities to justify its claims of Arctic sovereignty.

He says that approach is no longer adequate.

"When you're talking about sovereignty, all you can do is use Inuit in Nunavut. There's no real federal presence that can show that we're a part of Canada," he says.

Besides welfare checks, no, there's no real federal presence. Canadians actually care very little about the territory of Canada, instead they favour the serious jingoism like telling ourselves we have 'free' health care and 'diversity'. Yippee.

All these 'sovereignty' patrol stories about the far north - seems to me a diversion - We could be on the verge of a huge diamond find announcement, for example

Want to soften the suckers with touchy-feely mainstream media fluff. In this case a mobilization of people/resources, but while this is happening, something else is going on.

No brainer here. The Territories are Canada. We must protect, or lose them!
