Canadians Back Afghan Poppy Cultivation For Medicine: Poll

Posted on Thursday, August 30 at 13:17 by drcaleb
The European-funded Senlis Council, headed by Canadian lawyer Norine MacDonald, has been a long-time proponent of legalizing Afghanistan's massive poppy-farming and opium-cultivation trade. Their proposals are widely rejected by the United Nations, NATO and their various western allies. This week, the UN said for the first time that the illicit trade is directly linked to funding of the Taliban insurgency that threatens Canada and its military allies. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/national/story.html?id=b1178525-2686-4268-ac34-32a1acd7b7d2&k=96010

"The release of the poll Wednesday comes two days after the United Nations' latest audit of the poppy farming trade found that Afghanistan's production of opium, the key ingredient in heroin, has now reached record levels in the six years that western nations have controlled the country."

What a bonus! If we can't get that oil pipeline running through, then at least we get to profit from the sale of opium, eh?
