Unexplained Ice Melt Near Record Levels

Winter Arctic sea ice near record low
Ocean Coverage by Ice in March (15% or more is ice) in millions of square miles:
......This Year: 5.7
......Record low (2006) = 5.6
......Long term avg (1979 to 2000) = 6.1

NSIDC scientist Walt Meier said, "This year's low wintertime extent is another milestone in a strong downward trend. We're still seeing near-record lows and higher-than-normal temperatures."

Scientists pay special attention to extent during March and September.
......March usually marks the end of winter in the Arctic, a period when sea ice grows, or recovers, from the summer minimum. Low winter recovery means that the ice is freezing up later in the fall and growing at a slower pace in the winter.
......September usually marks the end of the summer melting season; low summer extent means that ice is melting faster during the summer and leaving less ice to build on during winter recovery.

Of course its record melt. There hasen't been much global warming until the the US started raining depleted uranium over most of the mid east. Research will show that"global warming" trends were reported not long after it was shown that the US was using depleted uranium in its munitions starting with Desert Storm. A couple years later as I recall, the first serious reports of global warming were out.

In the Beaufort Sea for early this past winter, for six weeks. About 50,000 square kilometres suddenly emerged ice-free, 200 kilometres inside the ice pack. "That was very unusual," Meier said. "We've seen occasional small holes in the ice in the summertime, but nothing that lasted that long or near that large."
How can anyone say that this is unusual after considering the earth's history of both slow and rapid climate change?

See: A quick background to the last ice age
A U.S. study on northern sea ice found that not only did 2006 have the second-lowest amount of ice on record, but also that the ice is retreating faster than the panel's climate models have predicted. ...... "What we're seeing, in the summertime particularly, is the (sea ice) that we've observed is actually declining much faster than the models have shown.”
Keeping in mind that in terms of geological time scales, the "record" that is being referred to represents a blink of the eye and cannot be taken seriously as an indication that anything is out of the ordinary. Obviously the "panel's climate models" are clearly wrong, but to infer from an admittedly incorrect model that "The model forecast may be underestimating what we could expect in the future years" is not only very bad science, but also looks a lot like intentional fear mongering.

You know, this global warming thing brings back memories of that old "ozone hole" scare we all heard about a few years ago. I wonder what ever happened to that one since it seems to have vanished completely from sight and mind, lemme guess, it too was a scam and I suppose we're paying a hefty tax or something for saving the world from the "hole". Probably the only good that came from that one was educating people about the harmful effects of getting too much sun. I'll do some digging.

Radiation has nothing to do with global warming, crankster. DU is an understated health hazard to combat troops and the civilians who re-occupy the battlefields after the shooting stops, but it does not rise into the atmosphere and trap heat.

The ozone hole prompted massive worldwide bans on fluorocarbons in aerosol cans. The ozone hole is being fixed. The ozone hole is still there, just getting better. Children in Australia still require full sun exposure suits when playing outside, skin cancer rates are still very high but declining, thanks to a huge effort to address the problem.

Just offering another stupid opinion to a stupid problem caused by stupid people. Or is it a problem? As I have said before, global warming trends are not all human error.
Plate techtonics and the "normal" cooling of a planet.
The core cools little by little thereby causing a shift in the planets movements. Nothing huge by any means yet enough to throw off weather patterns and cause havoc.
Yes,I agree pollution plays a part, yet, like everything else, western governments have put a coin slot on it to suck huge amounts of dollars that go elseware.
Why the depleted uranium comment? To draw attention to the fact that we shouldn't believe everything we hear.

I agree, like the MSM's balancing of global warming critics and skeptics against overwhelming scientific consensus, as if to influence the public so that they will believe 'the debate is not over' or 'it's a 50-50 split depending on who you ask'.

Over 2000 respected and non-biased scientists from around the world, versus 5 to 10 Exxon-Mobile advisors on the payroll.

It's no wonder there are people on this board who are confused over the issue.

    TRUST NO NEWS ARTICLE.

    QUESTION EVERYTHING.

And, after scouring the articles from scientific journals and listening to intelligent people with little or no hidden agenda, like my personal hero, Dr. David Suzuki, you will realize that we are screwing up our planet and urgent action is required NOW.

Mr.Suzuki is as biased as the government on this subject. Alittle bit of effluvia from somewhere and he cries environmental disaster.
While I applaud his work and advances in environmental awareness,he dosen't move the gov enough. The gov thinks on him as a radical and as we all know, the gov dsen't listen to radicals.

The claim is that there won't be a statistically detectable recovery until about 2024, and of course the claim is that global warming will somehow make the Ozone Hole(TM) worse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone_depletion#Current_events_and_future_prospects_of_ozone_depletion

In other words, if these scientists were studying how to tie up their own shoe laces over the last 20 years, they would still be fumbling around and tripping over their own feet.

The fact is that no one knows why our atmosphere and climate is changing, all they can do is observe the fact that there is constant change, which should be of no surprise to anyone.

Note: There is no ozone hole, there never was a hole, and there never will be a hole, it's all bullshit. What is being observed, is the thickness of an ozone layer found in the atmosphere, the layer is supposedly thinning out, but there are no holes in it.
If you mean by biased that he is passionate about saving the environment from further damage, then I agree. However, unlike the government, he is a trained scientist, and he has a huge following of Canadians that vote. Government chooses to ignore him at their peril.

    You can't read.

    From the page:

NASA, NOAA Data Indicate Ozone Layer is Recovering
    August 30, 2006

A new study using NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data finds consistent evidence that Earth's ozone layer is on the mend.

A team led by Dr. Eun-Su Yang of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, analyzed 25 years of independent ozone observations at different altitudes in Earth's stratosphere, which lies between 10 and 50 kilometers (six and 31 miles) above the surface. The observations were gathered from balloons, ground-based instruments and NASA/NOAA satellites.

The stratosphere is Earth's second lowest atmospheric layer. It contains approximately 90 percent of all atmospheric ozone. The researchers concluded the Earth's protective ozone layer outside of the polar regions stopped thinning around 1997. Ozone in these areas declined steadily from 1979 to 1997.
