More Fraud Charges In Sponsorship Scandal

Posted on Tuesday, May 11 at 09:00 by whelan costen
The Mounties said the alleged fraud totals about $2 million and even extends to another infamous federal program - the much-maligned firearms registry. Guite was the original director of the sponsorship program, while Brault was president of Groupaction Marketing, a Montreal-based company that received numerous contracts from the federal government.

The RCMP said some of the charges deal specifically with three contracts awarded to Groupaction between 1996 and 1999. The contracts were for $500,000, $550,000 and $575,000 respectively.

The Mounties also allege that Guite and Brault conspired to defraud the government with a bogus contract worth $330,000 in connection with a communications strategy dealing with the Justice Department's new firearms legislation.

The firearms registry should have been looked into a very long time ago, it has gone so far over budget that they must believe we are morons? Where did all that money go? If we could just get the politicians to stop mismanaging and otherwise wasting our money, healthcare etc. would be non-issues!
