Hezbollah Accused Of War Crimes

Posted on Thursday, September 14 at 12:34 by drcaleb
Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah said Amnesty should analyse the number of civilians killed on each side, before accusing Hezbollah of war crimes. Amnesty says what it calls Israel's violations can in no way justify Hezbollah's actions. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5343188.stm

And both the military leadership of Hamas and the leaders of the Israeli government should be sitting beside one another before the Hague. Only when this happens will events like Lebanon stop from happening. But the chance of charges coming against Hamas let alone Israel is next to zero.

Well there we go... There are all these laws that are supposed to define the rules of engagement and protect civilians but they're constantly being broken and no one is ever punished by the mechanisms that have been put in place to ensure that justice is served. Slow-Boat-Dan Milosevic and Saddam Who's Sane ok but where's George Bush, Tony Blair, Ariel Sharon/Ehud Olmert, etc. The list of criminals who have stood trial is no where near as long as the list of those who haven't. And then there are all the UN resolutions that have been vetoed and/or ignored by the US and Israel respectively. No wonder the world is on the brink of disaster.

You know Roy, I see Israel as the biggest bad guy in this - but not the only bad guy. Hezbolla, as far as I can tell, also used some pretty atrocious methods. However, since Hezbolla is not a government I think they're outside of war crimes laws (could be totally wrong about that of course).

There MUST be civilian laws in Lebanon that would cover some of these actions but because Israel is the aggressor and Lebanese are likely ill-disposed toward legal action against Hezbolla, I too think that no charges will ever be brought against them.

Israel, just like the USA, isn't about to charge its own with war crimes either...

I meant Hezbollah obviously in this case, but some Hamas need to face justice as well.
