“This work serves as a model in other areas of the health care system, where multidisciplinary teams work with individual Albertans to make the most effective use of resources, resulting in reduced wait times and improvements in productivity, quality and patient safety,” said Health and Wellness Minister Dave Hancock. The new funding will enable the institute to work on multi-year projects that focus on such areas as: -- development of guidelines, processes and clinical protocols to support planning and program design beyond hip and knee joint replacement to other areas of care, such as back/spine and inflammatory joint conditions and joint injuries, bone fractures and others; and -- development of a sustainability model to manage current and future needs for hip and knee replacements. “Multi-year funding from Alberta Health and Wellness gives us the stability we need to undertake longer-range projects and expand the scope of our work,” said Dr. Cy Frank, Executive Director of ABJHI. “We look forward to playing a leading role with our partners in bringing about exciting improvements in bone and joint health care for Albertans - improvements that reduce wait times, enhance service quality and improve efficiency.” ... http://www.gov.ab.ca/acn/200711/22579635D629F-B8B1-70A9-25A7C4AFD28DE6DE.html
