Five Men Held After Speaking Foreign Language On U.S. Airliner

Posted on Sunday, May 07 at 13:29 by jensonj
The incident started when the passenger aircraft took off from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Saturday on its way to Newark Liberty International Airport, outside New York, with 126 passengers and crew. Fellow passengers became suspicious of the men because they were speaking in foreign languages and had "aircraft flight materials" with them, said Steven Siegel, a spokesman for the FBI office in Newark. http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2006/05/06/detained-060506.html?print

Well at least they didn't shoot them first. One may wonder if the headlines would then report of an attempted hijacking. Don't even twitch on an American airline. If you don't speak english act as if mute. The Americans can't even see their own paranoia yet suggest they will regulate the world stage. Who fears whom more?

This is excellent news! It means passengers are keeping their eyes open and are remaining vigilant. The more vigilant the passengers, the better. Let's hope this story is repeated in every single middle-eastern media outlet in existence. The terrorists used to only have to be concerned about getting through security checkpoints at airports. They need to know that it doesn't stop there. They're going to be watched even once they're on the plane. Let's hope bus and train passengers are also practicing the same level of vigilance.

Even English is suspect, if spoken with an accent that is just a bit different. Anybody from Newfoundland (e.g.) might be considered to speak a foreign language.

Having lived in the US for over four years, I am constantly amazed by the lack of ear training of most Americans. And the lack of idiomatic language use.

But this article should really appear in the funnies, because how in the world could these guys have boarded the plane, after all the security checks around every corner in an airport?

Look under the bed before retiring, always suspect the other fellow, wear a gun just incase and always keep your back to the wall. Soon Americans will consider this a normal way of life. No wonder they can't understand the rest of the world.
