I did read this today.....I love how one of the head guys rationalized it by saying "The company hasn't been majority Canadian-owned for a long time, anyway." lol

CCM was created in response to American manufacturers trying to take the Canadian market over a hundred years ago, and was very successful, but this means about as much to capitalists as the Bauer sell-out to Nike I guess.

Canadians need to realize that when they purchase a product from an American company operating in Canada, their actually supporting jobs leaving Canada and going to the U.S.

With this possible take over of this company, its just a matter of time that all hockey equipement products will be manufactured in another country other then Canada. Jobs will leave Canada with each take over. We understand this, but our politicians don't.

I think our politicians understand this and if they are Liberals or Conservatives they don't care because they will be looked after by the Corp.s that they sell out to. Look at ex-Premier Manning of Alberta, when he retired from public life he was rewarded with a whole slew of directorships on major corporations boards. Now he was Social Credit but that is just a another nickname for a Conservative Party Branch. Look at Mulroney, Chairman of the Board of Quebecor and guess how many daily Sun newspapers this corp. publishes. They don't care, they don't care, they don't care! Did I mention that they don't care, they are not asking what they can do for their country they are asking what they can do to our country that will increase their own individual wealth and power.

Agreed, and isn't Nike the co that was discussed in Michael Moore's documentary, he tried to get them to open a manufacturing shop in the U.S. and the owner said NO! If I'm right then it's goodbye to all the jobs these companies currently have in Canada!

If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?

And Nike bought Bauer a few years back. For those of us who play hockey, we`ll all be wearing sweatshop hockey equipment.

"Canadians need to realize that when they purchase a product from an American company operating in Canada, their actually supporting jobs leaving Canada and going to the U.S."

Having political beliefs that are pretty leftist, I also used to share your opinion that American companies come to Canada and take our jobs away. However my job and studies have allowed me to fall upon research that clearly falsifies the belief that foreign direct investment (foreigners setting up companies in Canada) and globalization (free-trade etc.) reduces the number of domestic jobs. Rather the opposite occurs. L'institue de la statistique Canada has shown that companies in Canada that are owned by foreign parent companies offer higher salaries, more employment benefits and invest more money into the country. This wealth creation increases the number of jobs. It is also a economic fact that a country like the US cannot sell its products to Canada without purchasing Canadian products (if this happens the Canadian dollar would decrease making Canadian goods more attractive therefore increasing demand). If you are thinking that China vs. North America proves the contrary you'll notice that China deals with its high relative exports by inturn purchasing American money.

So basically, things are much more complex than they seem.
