Opinion - Election Issues - Make An Informed Decision

The Report, commissioned at the Bush, Martin, Fox summit in April 2005 and delivered to all three, one month later, specifying the initial steps required to acjieve Mr. Bush's fatal vision of Fortress America, recommends the following actions by the year 2010 :- 1. The integration of the armed forces of all three countries under a single command structure. 2. The elimination of borders between all three countries. 3. The development of a common continental economy with a single currency. 4. The adoption of a common North American passport. The concept of Fortress America is terminal folly, in this era of nuclear proliferation, thanks to the reluctance of the U.S. to engage in any negotiations for total elimination of nuclear weapons from all national arsenals and it will precipitate an arms race which can have only one ending: in the unimaginable horror of WWIII. Einstein warned that any survivors from that calamity would conduct future conflicts with sticks and stones. Without Canada's participation, Fortress America would remain a Bush dream and yet the Canadian public, in complete ignorance, is being led along the path of integration by its politicians, thanks entirely to the fact that journalists have abdicated their democratic and moral responsibility to be the eyes and ears of the people. The wrath of politicians and of the corporate media owners is a miniscule price to pay to defend democracy, compared to the perils faced by the young men of my generation in WW2, tens of thousands of whom gave their lives in that very cause, in order to pass Canada's freedom and culture into your keeping. If you continue to break faith with them by maintaining editorial silence on this most fundamental national crisis, thanks to an apparent lack of intestinal fortitude, please ponder the fact that the fate to which you are condemning Canadians by your reluctance to speak out, also awaits your children and gramdchildren. It is still not too late to warn Canadians of the peril they face, but only you have the capacity to do so. The election is only one week away; please consider your responsibility most carefully. W. J. Fisher, Kingston, Ontario. [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on January 18, 2006]

If I do make an informed decision, based on this situation here in Nova Scotia.. where the Premier vetoed our votes, hasn't this been a shot at the democratic process?

Please go to the article and you will better understand why our faith in this election process is being killed.
Dear Amy Smith. (Herald Reporter)

The appointment of Ian Thompson as a provincial representative to Ottawa is a major slap in the face to those who will be voting in the Jan 23, 2006 election. I feel it is important to talk about this, because it represents a lack of respect for what some call a democratic process, I was having a very difficult time trying to deceide weather or not to vote, because to things like this appointment give me pause to weather or not my vote really counts, and according to priemier Hamm it does not.
What Mr Hamm has done in my opinion has vetoed our votes and those who we elect here in Nova Scotia to be our and the Provinces elected representative in Ottawa, This does nothing to improve the democratic process and entice our youth to vote. This is a democratic deficit at it worst.

If Nova Scotia Conservative Premier John Hamm feels that their is a need to have a member of his party sitting in an office in Ottawa, I might suggest he use up one of his back benchers , since they are elected and we already pay them.
Is there really so few media/papers reporting on this that I could barely find 3 links when I search for

Manley "North American Deep Integration"?

(I got it by accident, because if I had a + in between there would be zero results)

when I tried Manley Report there were a lot, but a lot to do with electricity for Ontario and nuclear power for electricity generation.

What are the sources we have on this? Or is there too many to list and I'm just searching it wrong? Imean, this goes with what the letter writer was complaining about, but is this really all that there is? How had he found out about it - was a small column in print newspapers that they didn't bother to put up on the net or something?

Go to the top of the page, just under the Vive banner, and click on 'Red and White Ribbon . . '.

Lots of stuff there. Also, click on 'FAQ' (top right) then 'Show all" then go down to 'Sovereignty vs Deep Integration '.

I am very concerned about how the Conservatives want to lead the country when they don’t even bother answering a simple and straightforward questionnaire intended to help electors clarify choices. To the questionnaire presented by Greenpeace Canada to the running parties, the Conservatives have “No response yet” to ANY of the questions concerning the environment. See http://www.greenpeace.ca/e/feature/elections2006
I would appreciate not just a response from them, but also an explanation for this attitude.

This is something that has been driving me nuts about this election as well. I first became aware of Bush's fortress America concept through Michael Ruppert's “From The Wilderness” website a couple of years ago. The Council of Canadians and Global Research have also been talking about this.

It's rather unbelievable what these "Canadian" negotiators are willing to give away to make their American business counterparts happy. What are the American's willing to compromise on ... nothing. To me that means our “negotiators” are fools. And don’t be duped, this has nothing to do with terrorism.

I’m glad that CAP has been talking about this. Bravo!

did I post somethign here that was deleted? It was to do with the Katrina thing under "featured actions". Just wondering because I thought I'd posted it but its not here. Maybe I just previewed and didn't post or something, don't know.

Mainly because those Canadian businesses are owned by Americans.

I brought this issue up during a candidate meeting and not one other candidate knew what I was talking about. Worse still, not a single person in the audience apart from my supporters knew what I was talking about.

One clown even yelled out "liar". If the media doesn't cover it,it does not exist for most people. When the 'leading' candidates know nothing about it, when the people know nothing, and others don't want to know like Mr. Heckler, we are in serious trouble.

The neocons are coming... and our own ignorance is going to make it happen.

    Great point Ron.
I also get the strong impression that most candidates from the Liberal party have no knowledge about this issue. The reason I pick out the Liberals is because it’s their baby, soon to be passed on to the Conservatives (if they win a majority). I doubt many Conservative backbenchers or voters have heard of this issue either. Both parties will go forward with this though.

I wrote to the NDP some weeks ago suggesting that here is a real difference between the 3 major national parties and that I want to hear them speak up about it. I’m still waiting. I did receive a reply from them detailing their opposition in the past.

Your right, almost nobody knows about this.
